Removed injector pump from 450B JD Crawler to change seals and having
trouble reinstalling. pump drive shaft stayed in motor. any secrets to aligning the drive shaft or best way to proceed?

The pump driveshaft is supposed to stay in the engine. Did you static time the engine/pump as per the manual before pulling the pump off?

Do you have the TM 1033 technical manual? It has instructions for removal and installing the pump. It also tells how to set the engine if it was not set right before pulling the pump. Luckily you can find a copy of the manual at Archive. org in the Gerard Arthus collection, if you don't have one. It is one of the few manuals free on line.

Align the shaft end dot with the rotor slot dot inside the pump, turn the rotor slot with a large screw driver if needed. The rear shaft cup seal needs lubed well, and same goes for the pilot tube front. Work the seal inside the tube with your finger making sure it's not rolled back. You will know it's in place right if the pump slides easily over the seals. If it needs force, rear seal is folded over backwards, and needs replaced. If pump timing marks were aligned before removal, it should go back easily with the marks re-aligned. Getting the seal started in the tube is the hardest part.

You did replace the seals on the shaft, correct? If those seals leak you will have Diesel in your engine oil, that's why it's so important the 1st one doesn't roll. I have the tool but others have used wire ties to collapse the seal to get it started in the pilot tube.

Thanks for the help and all replies are appreciated.
I probable ruined the shaft cup seals so will replace.
Where is the best place to buy just the shaft cup seals

The store for this site may have them. I don't know the resources in your area but your local John Deere should have them, part number T11290. Any shop doing injection pump work is a likely place. Most any equipment dealer handling equipment using the Roosa Master pumps can be a possibility.
