Jcb trans fluid

Hi have a 1988 jcb 1400b
Looks to have the zf shuttle trans in it. Filter screwed on the side.
Looking for compatible fluid.
There no JCB dealer anywhere close. Need to flush asap looks water contamination
Its red like atf ( strawberry milkshake now)
Searched tons and found recommendations for dex, for ford type F atf, and of course jcb. Cant get jcb what should i use?

If I remember right the operators manual specs for Ford Type F ATF oil. Being Type F is hard to find around here you can use ISO 46 multi-grade hydraulic oil. That's what I use in the small JCB wheel loaders. Or you can use John Deere Hy-Gard low viscosity oil too.

The JCB's with the synchro shuttle (the one with the filter on the side)takes Shell Spirax S4 CX30 or a good quality HyTrans oil,the earlier ones with the Borg Warner shuttle took the red ATF,the brakes on both took the same as hydraulics.

Currently has a red fluid in it. Believe it was jcb special trans fluid.
I can get type.f.but yes less common here in 5gl pails

Loooking for.a.sprex equivalent here in the states

Need to flush do to small cooler leak. Making pink milkshake in trans.
Luckily havent really driven it out of the yard before i noticed. Hooe to flush and put it into service again

My bad itz an air to oil cooler.
Water contamination from condensation possibly??

Ok so back to fluid

Just some of my thoughts that might help.

You can't always go by color as to what the oil is. Do you have an operator's or service manual? The manuals should tell you the JCB recommendations for your machine. Looks like AJ gave you options based on type of shuttle from info he has. Shell Spirax S4 CX30 crosses to Mobiltrans HD30 from a cross reference I found on line. Mobiltrans is available in different viscosities, you may have to change to a lighter viscosity in cold weather or have an extended warm up period.

We don't know where you are located but do a search on the dealer locator on the JCB website for a dealer near you. Give their service department a call and ask them what they recommend. Recommendations likely have changed since your machine was built and an approved multi-viscosity oil may be available. The dealer service departments I have called over the years have told me what they recommend.

Any major oil supplier/distributor in your area should be able to tell you their equivalent oil once you determine which shuttle you have and recommended oil. They have access to the oil manufacturers technical reps if they don't know. They will have an equivalent to the JCB Special Trans or the Shell Spirax for the ZF or ATF for the Borg Warner, if you decide to go with one of those oils. Check with the parts store you use, they may purchase their 5 gallon pails or barrels from one of these distributors and can find the options for you if you give them the info on the oil you need. I have done that with my local parts store.

Check to see that any oil you use to flush with is compatible with the oil you are going to run, otherwise any remaining in the system after the flush may contaminate the oil you put in to run.

The trouble with JCB oil is they packet and name their oils,if you have a Case dealer near you the oil Case use Case TCH will do fine in the JCB too,most of the owner drivers that deal with us use a generic brand HyTrans oil,any ag tractor outlet should have it.
