Would, or can it be done, installing valve stem seals work on this engine? The valve guides which are cast iron are worn a great deal but I'm hoping to get by without having to replace with new ones or ream and line the ones that are in the engine now.
Thank you in advance.

Yes it can be done, there is a seal on the intake valves only, the rocker shafts will have to come off,you will need the piston to be at TDC on the cylinder you are working on so the valve can't drop down,it is best to loosen the injector retaining nuts off and with a heel bar move the injector off it seat so the compression can escape while you are turning the engine by hand, the firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4,start off putting the notch in the pulley in line with the pointer #1 cylinder on compression stroke, compress the spring remove the retainers, the cup and spring, note the way the spring was fitted ie put it back the way it came off,if mixed up the close wound end goes to the bottom, with the seal on and the spring and retainers back in place turn the engine 60° and do #5 turn another 60° and do #3 follow the firing order till done,I used to use a piece of cardboard cut the same diameter as the pulley put six equal marks on it and stick it to the pulley, that way you will get it done by turning the engine one revolution, put the rocker shafts on and set the tappets using the same method.
Good luck
