I am purchasing a 2005 Cat 325CL Excavator. I have a choice between a machine built in China with 3000 fewer (5000 total)
hours and one made in USA with more (8000 total) both seem to run well, but cosmetics are better on US machine. My
experience in general with China manufacturing has not been good (not with Cat machines), but don't know if Cat maintained
quality control in China?? For use in Cambodia freight is much cheaper from China. What do you guys think? Thanks in
advance!

It is possible that the parts used in the US built machine were made in China,Cat have a lot of factories in China,as of lately I have noticed that the parts for Cat's we get here in the UK are made in China, they seem to hold up just as well,I would think that Cat would use the same quality control at all their plants to uphold it's good name,if there is a vast difference in the price and shipping I would go for the cheapest because of the trust I have in Cat.

The biggest thing for me to consider is parts availability. I don't know about your ability to get parts in Cambodia but here in the States I would stick with the U.S. machine. I work for a CAT dealer. A lot of the machines built for the NON U.S. market we called Grey Iron machines. They were never meant to be imported here. They can be bought cheaper but we have run into instance where we could not even get a parts book for that particular machine in English. With the Internet today it is not as big of an issue as before but it is something that I would take into great consideration before settling on a final purchase as to weather or not it is going to be a hassle when parts are needed.
