John Deere Crawler 350B

Hi All,
I have a John Deere 350B with a 3-152 diesel engine and have been searching for a camshaft; after just overhauling the engine (sleeves, pistons, head, crank, etc). I have now bought two used cam shafts and they are both for a 3-152 but they turn and function for a clockwise rotating engine. My diesel in the dozer is CCW rotating - looking from the front.
I am told that a CW rotating engine was built after the 1970's for the agricultural applications and all the parts books come up with the wrong shaft. Very frustrating and confusing. The shaft I am searching for has to have a casting number between the lobes for cylinder # 1 and # 2 of T20016. Any and all help appreciated,
Greg Mitchell

I guess you know that the JD 1020 farm tractor used the same diesel engine. Don't know about cam direction.

Thanks for the response. Does anyone reading this post know the rotation direction (looking from the front) of the 2010 diesel Tractor engine?

The engine (crank and cam) in my dozer turns counter-clock wise.
Cheers
Greg

Are you certain the engine turns CCW from the front,I have looked up the parts lists of several JD units with that 3 cylinder engine and can find no reference to a counter clockwise one,the starter motor listed for the 350B is a Delco 27MT which is CW rotation which means it turns the flywheel CCW which is normal, engines that turn CW from the front when you face it the flywheel will be turning CCW when you face it,look on the starter there might be an arrow, usually marine engines will run in either direction to eliminate the need for a gearbox or clutch, but that is the larger ones and in yesteryear.that tractor used both diesel and gas engines they are very similar to each other, the parts are listed for both side by side,is there an arrow on the hydraulic pump?.

AJ - you are perfectly correct and I have made a terrible error in the rotation direction of my engine. It is clockwise looking from the front. I think all I need to do is re-time the pump.
Thanks so much.

Its an easy mistake to make because the rest of the tractor is designated left and right hand sitting in the seat facing the front which is opposite to the to the rotation of the engine,if you put the gears to their marks and seeing that the pump drive shaft is keyed to its drive gear the timing could well be correct or it could be 180° out,get the engine on compression stroke #1 cylinder and then bring the flywheel to the timing mark, with the timing window open on the pump check to see if the two match marks are lined up,one on the pump body and the other on the rotor if you can't see the mark on the rotor at all it is on the wrong stroke and you will have to remove the pump and turn drive adapter in the pump 180° and put it back, there is a match mark on the pump drive shaft tang and another in the pump drive adapter that should be matched.
Good luck
AJ

Thanks AJ - I have Roosamaster pumps on my Timberjack skidders with the Ford 172 engines, so I'm familiar with the pump timing. Thanks again for your help.
Cheers

It is safe to say that there are virtually NO engines in
agricultural use that have opposite rotation engines; 1020
John Deere included.

Yes I agree the standard rotation is CW standing at the front facing the fan but there are plenty CCW engines about in things in the quarry industry like small hand cranked diesels one and two cylinders found in screeners, conveyers and the like, here in the UK Lister and Petter could be either hand and have fooled many's the man when trying to start them if someone changed the pawl in the crank handle from CCW to CW.
