Hello what dose a 918 weigh , were they a good machine or would I be better off with a JD 400 , case 530, massey or a ford 4500 ?? I would use it as a farm machine, fixing tile, cleaning ditches, loading manure, ect thanks Bryan

I have no knowledge of an AC 918, I do enjoy messing around with the old backhoes. Im going to assume the 918 is an industrial tractor with a backhoe attachment? I would see what parts are available for it first in the tractor salvage yards nearyou. I had a chance to buy a JD 300 backhoe pretty cheap but it has a blown basket case ( disassembled) motor that sat outside for 5 yr uncovered, I couldnt find a motor for it and a rebuilt was near $3000. thats about what the backhoe is worth up and running. So you must research parts availability before purchase. I have a Case 530 backhoe ( weighs about 9000 lb )and a Ford 4500 backhoe ( weighs about 11 or 12000 lb). both are good but old, common things to look for when buying an old backhoe, tires, leaky hydraulic cylinders and cracked or rusty braided hydraulic hoses. hoses always seem to be in poor shape, an when you need the machine the hose breaks and 3 to 5 gallons of hydraulic fluid is gone, easy hundred dollar hit, pending the hose and its location. be sure to inspect them, they can be a money pit. Good luck
