When we first start running it won't pull well or very far in forward then barely anywhere in reverse. After back and forth a few to many times it works but tranny still seems weak especially in reverse. I've changed and cleaned all 3 filters a lot. Any ideas? Change tranny fluid?

Sounds like crispy clutch piston seals. Find the pressure taps and check direction and range clutch pressures. You changed the filters and not the oil?
Make sure there's enough oil in it so it's not sucking air.

Low transmission clutch preasure form several things. First weak pump but I doubt that more like the inner seals in the transmission or worn disk. Do as the other poster suggest get some readings.

thanks guys i'm used to manual transmissions this is new to me. I'll change oil first then check pressures.

Assuming it is a 15C,
Should have a clutch pressure gauge on the dash. To start with what does it show, in neutral, in each gear and at idle and high idle. May not have numbers, if not does it stay in the green? Should be around 200psi give or take 20psi. Should drop during a shift but bounce right back up.
Oil level checked at idle with long dipstick next to the seat.
There are other check to do but should know this first.

Can't determine anything without pressure readings. Under the floor plate right in front of the seat should be three test ports, 1/8'' pipe.
One is for clutch pressure around 200psi, one for converter pressure 80-100psi at high idle and one for lube press 20-25psi at high idle. You'll need a 300psi test gauge and maybe one with lower readings for the lower pressure tests.
good luck
