Brand new to the tractor world. Got my 1st the other day, a case 995.All in all it is in pretty good condition. I bought it to use it on my 10 acres. When the tractor was sold to me a number from the left side of the frame was listed as the serial number. I tried to look up that number but no luck. I did a search and found that the serial number is on the right side of the frame. I have since had a new bill of sale made reflecting the numbers on the right side of the frame. The number is far too long to be a serial number for Case or DB. The number is 995611079235. Any help would be appreciated. Thx in advance.

You are correct, the clutch is engaged when the lever is down and that is where it should be at all times except when stopping the PTO implement. When the clutch is disengaged the TO bearing is running under pressure and can cause damage if left that way extensively, you are also correct that that lever can be locked up.

Based on that number I believe you have a 1976 CaseDB 995/6. Im thinking you must be in North America. Your tractor if elsewhere in the world would have a cab, and be badged as a 996. The difference between yours and a 995 is yours is likely an inch longer and has a different clutch setup, the foot pedal should only stop forward travel, the pto clutch should be operated by a separate lever.

Thx for the reply. I'll check on the inch longer part, which I had no clue, and you are right about the PTO. Is has a separate clutch lever on the left side of the seat and I'm not sure when to use it. The guy I bought it from said he just always left it down. And yes, I'm in Mississippi.

I have a DB 1200 and a DB 1210 and both of them have the hand clutch for the PTO (similar to your 995). Never leave the lever in the engaged position as that will rapidly burn up the throw out bearing.

Here is a link to the operators manual for the DB995. Free download or view it online. Message me if you have any problems downloading. I can email you the manual if necessary. here is the link:

It does have a lever on the left but doesn't go back and forth. It goes up and can lock into a detent, I assume then you would shift into high or low speed pto and then release the clutch to engage the pto. At this point I would think that the normal position would be with the lever down and that would be like the clutch pedal released to it's normal position. Raising the lever would be like stepping on the pedal to shift into gear. I've included some pictures. They show the clutch up and down and the PTO shift lever in high, neutral, and low.
