Distributor question

The top part of this distributor shaft has approximately 1/32 side to side play. Is this acceptable and if not is it repairable? How does it separate from the lower part? Thanks for any help.

Do you see the part IG 680 in the diagram? Pull the felt out of the hole in the top, finagle that little wire clip off the notch in the shaft, and the cam will slide up and off. And you WILL lose that clip!! Dare you not to! I found mine in my sweepings, once I'd made another one out of a spring. steve

Both top and bottom of that shaft are one piece, and the fly weight mount plate is pressed on. You might be able to find a NOS shaft. I couldn't find one for my IAT 4005, so I'm in the process of modifying a different one to suit my needs. You might be able to build up the top shaft with weld and turn it back down to spec. The cam part is really hard steel, so is unlikely very worn. steve
