Case D question

new case owner here. I recently bought a case "D" and was told it was an orchard. What are the chariteristic features to Identify a DO? It doesnt have the distinctive "fairing" sheet metal' Would the serial number have a clue? Thank you

The serial number tag will tell weather it is a D or DO. What are all the letters and numbers on your tag?

yes , plus it should be narrower. and most important the serial number tells the truth. lets see picture.

In addition to the serial number, telltale signs are the air intake is streamlined and the exhaust elbow is angled downward with no muffler on a stock DO.

the serial number is 5406164D. I found this on the tag under the battery box after sanding off a lot of orange paint. I dont see any serial number on left engine block/transmission. Does that mean it has a replacement engine? It didnt have the air cleaner or exhaust stacks, I've put exhaust pipes on both, but the manifolds are straight up with no angles. I will post a picture when I figure out how to do it. Thanks for the responses guys.

yep except on rubber. Im gonna sand some more and double check to make sure theres not an "O" after the "D". thanks

Hello Dr. welcome to YT! Are you posting in Modern or
Classic Veiw? In Classic when you view your post the
line with Author at the top will be gray, in Modern it is
red. At the moment Modern has a one post minimum
post number prior to being able to post pictures. In
Classic the minimum is set at 5. So I suggest you post
from Modern. Photos are posted by the ..Choose files..
button lower in the ..New post and Reply.. windows.

I think that the seat channel is different to lower the seat and the steering shaft is shorter to keep the steering wheel more protected from
limbs. I will try to get some pics later today. Mike

Thank you! These pics are very helpful. The seller said it was a 1955 DO. I knew 55 was wrong because they were'nt made that late, and now Im sure its not an "O" between the info from serial number and illustrated very well by your pics. Doesnt really matter to me but I like to have accurate info. After seeing your serial number on the block Im gonna renew my efforts to find it on mine.

I have been trying to switch to modern view without success. Could you advise me on the required steps. I also have been unsuccessful in trying to private message you.

For me I use classic view most of the time but to switch to modern I scroll to the top right corner and there is a modern button that
switches views. Good luck, Mike
