Strange question. I was running my new to me ck530 digging a basement for a addition. Went out the next day and started digging again and it started making a strange squealing noise from the front end, like a fan belt with a grind to it. I got off the machine to get a closer look and listen and it stopped. So I started digging again and the noise started again only louder, so I started to get the bucket out of the hole and the machine died with the bucket still in the hole. Now the engine will not turn over because whatever was making the noise has the engine in a bind. The power steering pump is not belt driven, so could it be the power steering pump or maybe the hydraulic pump? Something is not letting the engine turn over. Any ideas?

Previous post states tractor is 1964. Gas or diesel? COM or dry clutch?

Can you hear the starter bendix engage the ring gear in attempt to roll the engine or just the solenoid click? Personaly If it is dry clutch I would pull the starter first and see if the starter gear had been hung up on the ring gear. Pulling starter on COM is more involved, move on to check other easier possible causes.

If it is a dry clutch tractor, it will have a lockout plunger to disengage the drive linkage of the internal hydraulic pump if it exists, COM does not have that feature.

The PS hyd pump gear drives off the cam gear, 3 bolts, back it out far enough to disengage gears, have someone hold the pump and try the starter.

Front PTO hydraulic pump shaft, if it doesn't have a flex coupling, is splined to the crankshaft pulley adapter. Probably need penetrant soak to get loose and some bad words to break loose.

Ive had alternator/ generator lock up and not allow motor to turn over. Not saying thats it but Worth a look

It is a gas engine with a torque convertor 4 speed, high and low shift.
Yes, the starter engages but can't turn the engine over.
I am going out of town this week, but will try the PS pump when I get back.
Thanks, Hoedown

Thanks, but that's not it. The belt was loose enough for me to turn the generator by hand.
Any other ideas?
