Case 300 and woods RM500-2 finish mower

A relative gave us a woods RM500-2 finishing mower a while back and am trying to get it fit up to the case 311 I think it is(unsure), the problem is the woods has 2 wheels in the front and it hits the back tires of the tractor, and or the eagle lift arms don't reach back far enough so it will clear.

He asked me to make the little arms on the mower longer, they are about 6" and from what it looks like they will need to be almost another 10" longer to clear the front wheels when they are flipped around, I'd like to make sure they clear completely even when rotated around.

My thought was to just remove the front 2 wheels but my dad seems to want to keep them on there so it hugs the ground better and I'd like to get this working because the thing has just been siting there for years now. Are there any simple solutions here? I was going to extend the arms but adding another 10" or so will put the upper link about as far out as it can go and the driveshaft might also be at its limits.

I'll post up some pics later but if you're familiar with the eagle hitch and look at the woods RM500-2 with with the 2 front wheels it's kind of obvious. Any suggestions appreciated. I'll also post up some other ideas I've had later as well. Thanks

I had a shovel plow that hit the drawbar. I got a piece of 3/8x3 bar stock and bolted it to where the old pins were to move it back a few inches. Works great. I imagine
something similar would work for you. The 300 lift arms are shorter than most.

I've tried hooking up to two different
garden tillers and found it wouldn't work
because the shorter arms made the PTO shaft
too long. My 312 with 36 tires has longer
arms but they mount to the axle housing
differently so they won't switch. I would
do as RK suggests, and for the top link,
buy one from a farm store thats plenty
long, cut the ball end off and weld a piece
of pipe to fit the 300 mount.

Have you considered using a quick hitch attachment. I use one on an 800 for snow blower but had to adapt the quick hitch for the cat 1 spacing.

I picked up another 3"x1/2"x2' piece of flat bar. I got one last week thinking 2' would be enough to get both sides, but I didn't notice the ones on the mower are already 6-8" and I would have only gotten another 2" each side. So I'll post up some pics of cutting/drilling those and seeing how much length is really needed.

Might need to lengthen the driveshaft, upper link, not sure. Looking at those it shouldn't be too hard to do either.

So I made some longer arms for the woods RM500-2. I couldn't find any other examples of someone using this mower on this tractor and with the front wheels so this is how I've approached this so far.

Using two 3" x 0.5" x 24" flat bar mild steel. Original distance between front and back mounting holes was 4.5" which is pretty short and what's causing my clearance issue. I moved the mower to behind the tractor and looks like 12" should be enough. Hole for the bolt and spacer that attaches to the mower is 1" and also slightly offset from center-line. The cut angle on the back side of the arms is 50*. Front hole for the posts the lift arms grab is 7/8".

I'll post some pics of fitting it up and any other work needed. Keeping the full length of those bars until I know for sure 1' is long enough.

I did indeed, but the extra 4-5" it would give me is just not enough to keep the wheels from hitting. I was going to build one myself that would be longer, but the extra work and steel required isn't worth it or needed. I had even drafted up a 3d model of a quick hitch that would be long enough. It was getting more and more complex and I didn't want to waste alot of my random steel stock pieces trying to make it.

This was the longer quick hitch I planned out. Sizes and measurements are proportional, and I was designing it based only off stock steel sizes and shapes I already have laying around. I was in the process of figuring out how to set up stiffeners that would box it out in the back. Since it's 2-3x as long as a normal one it would need either another set of squared supports from top to bottom or what I was thinking was doing an A frame on the more rear area for strength.

Maybe something more like this. I didn't finish it, at that point I had decided to just lengthen the arms and such. Still, might be helpful for someone

Got everything hooked up, works pretty good. Top link is a little too long, but I have enough room to tighten it down and should be fine. Either way I'm going to drill 1 or 2 more holes so it's more adjustable. Left the extra space on the lower arms, might drill another hole or 2 on those as well and make it extend out just a tad further, but everything clears as it is and I think my dad will appreciate being able to use it.
