my neighbor traded some stuff for a Case VA. now that we got it running, he wants to change the transmission and hyd oil. he has ordered a manual, but it hasn't arrived yet. what oil should should he use? he said there are what looks like 3 drain plugs, but only one fill plug. does that sound right? thank for the help

well your trans and diff. take 80-90 gear oil. the hyd. will take ordinary hyd. oil, nothing special, if that the only tractor he has.

Any modern Oil today is better than oils We had during W.W II when this little tractor was responsible for feeding the free world. That said, if it is running , If It were mine I would put a qt of ATF in the engine oil, and run it raking or puttering around ,, Just dont Put that VA on a disc Or Plow hammering away. The Tranny is seperate from Hydraulic and takes 90 wt. That plug is at the lowest part of Tranny. The Hydraulics might have to drain by loosening a hose. It probably will not appreciate fresh clean type F or Dextron , or any pricey oil s...You can Use 30 weight oil With a qt of 90 to give it body. Case used light engine oil in the book. .
