Case 530 lubrication questions

I have a 1960 Case 530. It has the old-style steering box with a grease zerk on the top. How much grease does it take and how can I tell when
it's full? Similarly, the outer axle bearing has a zerk and the service manual specifies a 60 hour lube cycle, but doesn't say how much
grease the axle bearings take or how to tell when they're full. Can anyone out there give me some advice?

First you need to drain the 90 weight oil out of the bottom of the gear housing. If you have the steering box I think you have you also have a vent cap on the top cover. Thats where you would refill with 90 wtGear oil. The grease zerk on top is to lubricate the thrust ball retaining plug .It does not state how much 90 wt in themanual.CM

The steering rod seal is shot in my 530's steering gear box. Since the tractor doesn't get used very often, I drained out the 80-90 that was in it, and added a zerk in the drain plug. I then filled it full of JD corn head grease. If you still want to fill it with 80-90, the manual states to fill it just to cover the worm gear. You can stick a rod into the top fill hole to check to see it the worm gear is covered.
