Case 530 Questions with Pictures

Thanks everyone that is willing to help.
I am new to owning a tractor and cant say I understand all terminology, so bare with me.

As far as I can tell it is a 1965 model 32 case 530CK

1. Does this tractor have a torque converter? Is this it in the pic?
2. I have looked in every manual I can find, it show a torque filter should be in front of the radiator but its not on this tractor and I don't see any evidence that it ever was. Someone posted this "My 530D the fill is next to the hyd. valve
/filter housing on top of the trans under the dash on brake side. 1 1/2 " plug" Does anyone have a picture, I sure cant find that.

3. When filling the Torque converter with oil can I use the tube breather and not the dipstick. Its so small and will take forever with 4 gallons or so.

4. Is this a dual or triple range tractor, not that I actually understand what that means yet

5. On the shifter, I can only get it to go into 1st and 2nd. 3rd and 4th, don't seem to be there. Is there a trick with the shuttle or should I be able to shift normal to 3rd and 4th? How do you use the shuttle also, is that clutch in push shuttle then change gears? - little lost on procedure.

6. How do I tell if its a Dry or wet clutch

7. I do not see a replaceable air filter location on this model

Thanks again for any
Mike

It is a dry clutch so nothing about the TC tractors applies, the lever by the picture of the battery is a HI/lo range selector, The air cleaner is a wet cleaner , you remove and clean the bowl above the engine, refill the bowl to level and reinstall. the plug above and in front of the clutch pedal is the level plug for the manual shuttle and dual range box, the large flat big nut between the shifter cover and the rear cover plate is the rear oil level, (90 weight is good for there). Case Hy Tran wouold be the recommended oil for the front and yes it can be filled through the vent tube. BTDT

[/i:1bdbc4d4e5]I'll help out as best as i can, I am still pretty new as well but studied quite a bit. Get the operator manual and you'll be an expert.[i:1bdbc4d4e5]

1. Does this tractor have a torque converter? Is this it in the pic?
[/i:1bdbc4d4e5]Also called "wet clutch" a torque converter was a case-o-matic" and is distinguished in these by the converter temp gauge and the clutch petal on the l side of operator going into the tractor rather than under the operator floorboard[i:1bdbc4d4e5]

[/i:1bdbc4d4e5] no clue as I don't have a converter[i:1bdbc4d4e5]

3. When filling the Torque converter with oil can I use the tube breather and not the dipstick. Its so small and will take forever with 4 gallons or so.
[/i:1bdbc4d4e5] no clue as I don't have a converter[i:1bdbc4d4e5]

4. Is this a dual or triple range tractor, not that I actually understand what that means yet
[/i:1bdbc4d4e5] dual (hi-lo?)and triple range (li-lo-direct) is a initial set of gears before the tranny - the shifter is on the right side of operator all way forward - usually tractors are hand clutch (lever on L side operator foot) and triple range and construction side is dual range and shuttle (where your shuttle is - never seen a triple range with shuttle)[i:1bdbc4d4e5]

[/i:1bdbc4d4e5] never used the shuttle, but it's used to go from forward to reverse - think of it if you're in 3rd gear tranny and high dual range - shuttling from forward to reverse keeps all the other gears the same and you only have to shift the shuttle and can go the speed of forward- really sped up loader operations and is really meant to make the forward back operation of a loader easier. I would think you would clutch in before operating the shuttle[i:1bdbc4d4e5]

6. How do I tell if its a Dry or wet clutch
[/i:1bdbc4d4e5] wet clutch = converter & dry = pressure plate - remember the clutch petal orientation above, works without exception as far as i can tell[i:1bdbc4d4e5]

7. I do not see a replaceable air filter location on this model
[/i:1bdbc4d4e5] you'll like the wet type, may have to pull it apart and check the mesh - replace if all gummed up[/i]

Your 530ck is similar to mine. It has the low high range lever on the right. It has a case-omatic torque tube (Predecessor to the power shuttle) The left lever is forward/reverse (lever forward for reverse). I believe it has a wet clutch and a torque converter.

The clutch pedal is depressed to shift from forward/ reverse, from high to low, and to change gears.

I use the breather to fill my torque tube, make sure you use the right fluid in the shuttle.

Mine has the filter"can" in front of the radiator.

Someone has bastardized your dashboard. There should be a large series of gauges where that plate is. Also if you look just above and to the right of the the steering column on the dash there is a hole there. On mine there is a lever there. That lever is for locking the torque converter. Basically an over-drive.
