930 ck power steering

Good morning all. My 930 steering squeels a lot. The pulley on the water pump has a ridge worn into it from belt slippage. I got a pulley off a 930 parts tractor but Is larger. Original pulley is 45/8
New replacement is 53/4. Would the larger pulley be better if spin faster or actually make it worse?

Hi:

I was taught that the bigger on the receiving end the slower the spin and smaller would be faster. The opposite is true for the sending end. So your power steering pump would now turn slower.

The pulley that I need to change is on the fan(driver) not
touching the pulley on the actual pump.(receiver). So would
faster be better or worse?

One would think faster would build more pressure. May not matter if the pump has a pressure release that keeps it a a certain pressure.

Make sure the other belts will fit too. There e st least 3 different belt configurations on the 30 series. Two run 2 belts from crank to water pump and alternator with a separate power steering belt. The last ones had just 2 belts.

As far as speed, that much extra won't hurt. Those are the same pumps used on Ford cars and trucks of the time and they can run much faster.

The power steering belt on my 930 would squeal like crazy. I discovered that the pump was really very hard to turn, almost seized. Put on a different pump, problem solved
