Case 570 hydraulic leak (1971)

I have a hydraulic leak at the shaft that mated to the flywheel, see pic. I removed the throw out bearing and plate to the hydraulic housing. There is another plate deep into the housing that I also removed. The main shaft will not come out. So is the something holding the shaft or is it press in and I need to pull harder? Or do I need to remove the hydraulic pump to remove this shaft?

You already have the Housing removed, containing 1 seal. No shafts need to be removed. In the flywheel, with the pilot bearing is a seal and O Ring. Address these items and your problem will be solved.

There is some type 'felt' washer in the flywheel but is don't see an o-ring. Where should there be an oring? I will look on line to find a new felt washer. See below pics.

Does anyone have a different version of the below section view?
It is a section view through the clutch bearing, hydraulic housing and front part of the transmission. The one below is not showing a shaft within a shaft. That is where my hydraulic leak is at. I hate to pull out the hydraulic pump without additional info if I can find any.

I see a felt pad in the flywheel but no o-ring. I did not remove the felt pad. I want to find a new one first. So far no luck finding a new felt washer, any suggestions?
See below sketch where should the o-ring be?
Maybe it is missing.

The link is to the parts manual for the 570. It does show an o-ring (#7) between the flywheel and engine rear main seal. I haven't worked on a 570 and do not know what the purpose of the shaft within the shaft other than the outer shaft for the hydraulic pump that splines to the pressure plate. If you have the hydraulic pump drive assembly out, the seal (#63) nearest the pump prevents hydraulic oil leak between the shafts into the bell housing.

Thanks for the web site, just what I needed. I did change out Seal #63 , bought a seal from my local seal guy. I am in process of ordering the o-ring and the felt washer in the flywheel. With any luck I will get this tractor back together next week.

I've repaired bell housing hydraulic oil leaks & repaired clutches on several older tractors that are similar to your 570. While you have it split good idea to renew the hyd pump drive housing seal (#55)and feel check the ball bearing (57) rolls smoothly.

When you mate the engine block to the bell housing often the alignment isn't close enough and the pressure plate splines will butt up against the end of the hyd pump drive shaft. Temptation is to close the block to bell housing with the fasteners, don't do it as when the pressure plate splines and hyd pump drive splines do not mate and slide together smoothly the pressure plate hub will be deformed to the point that the clutch will not disengage.

John, Mel here. I have worked on many of those over the many years, there is no possible way a fiber washer will provide a oil tite seal, the hard rubber backed, spring loaded seal, is what you need. I have no idea where that fix came from. I am not demeaning others opinions but go to John Saeli and get the proper parts, This system was introduced somewhere early to mid 530 series. I would also replace the one in the bearing carrier.

I thought the same concerning the felt washer. I did get a 'real' seal from the Case dealer and the flat o-ring that goes between the flywheel and crankshaft.
Got it back together and it started without any problem.

No leaks so far, I did just find another problem that I will post in my bend push rods post.
Thanks

Thanks for the advice. Mating the bell housing to the engine did take a lot of shacking and wiggling but it went together. Runs and shifts as good as before.
