I wonder if anyone knows what the hole in the top of the PTO housing is for, and is it supposed to have a flat tap in plug??
also How do I get the fan belt off, I see no tension adjustment. ?? THANKS

I found that hole in my parts book but it does not show a plug.
As for the fan belt. it's quite a job to tighten. You need to disconnect the upper radiator elbow from the cylinder head and loosen the two bolts at the bottom which hold the radiator tight to the front casting. Tip the radiator forward and remove the fan blade. The upper pulley is a 2 piece unit and on the sides are 3 or 4 small bolts which must be loosened. You then take a punch and insert it into holes on the side of the pulley and tap with a hammer to turn the outer shell of the pulley. The belt should have no more that 1/2 inch deflection when pressed with your fingers.
Now, a tip on reinstalling the fan blade. Cut the heads off 2 bolts and thread them into 2 of the holes in the pulley hub; slide the fan blade into place and bolt it tight and then replace the cut off bolts with regular ones.

wow, what a great piece of engineering!(not) I only need to change the alternator belt, maybe try the 'link belt' idea...

I have changed fan belts on them many times without messing with the fan or radiator. Loosen the adjustment on the fan pully, get the belt off the crank pully and work it around the fan one blade at a time. The generator belt is another issue. It is too short to get around the fan.
