case fuel injector problem

1968 case

New User
I have a 1968 case 580b. It stopped running one day, and we determined the injector pump needed to be rebuilt. I had the pump Rebuilt then installed it and the tractor ran rough. The installer damaged one of the two seals on the shaft when it was installed and would fill the crankcase with diesel while running, so we had to pull it and then reinstall with new seals. The problem I'm having now is that too much fuel is being sent to the injectors and the fuel is coming out around the exhaust muffler base. All the components have been cleaned and reinstalled along with new injectors. Return line is clear. Looking for answer why too much fuel is being dispersed. Hopefully someone has an answer! Thanks

I doubt it's TOO MUCH fuel, but low compression heat/wet stacking. Diesels have a much cooler exhaust temp than gas engines do at idle/light load use. A tired, low compression engine, or thermostat stuck open makes it worse. Only way to know for sure of engine condition is pull the injectors and have a compression test done. The injection pump does not deliver more fuel to one outlet than another..

dsl tech has you covered on the fuel issue,, just letting you know though a 580B was made 1971 to 1975,, 580CK was made 1966-1971,
