The guy who has the 430 I wanted to buy, took the transmission cover off and this is what he said? I pulled the cover off, teeth missing on lower shaft in transmission to pto. Just trying to find out how bad this is, regarding parts availability. I am guessing the tractor has to be split.

Here are pictures if you can make sense of them. I can't

Ken , that is the oil slinger gear, it's only purpose in life is to supply oil to the oil troughs cast into the transmission casting that runs oil to the bearings when the transmission is running not in gear. it runs constantly in every gear but 4 th, when the 4th sliding gear moves forward out of mesh. It is a complete split to remove the countershaft to replace it, it runs on a machined area on the front of 3rd gear. If it were not there the top shaft bearings would run dry when the tractor was sitting out of gear running.

Kenbob; several years ago when I was working on my 1950VAC. Reverse would not work and it would jump out of 3rdand 4th gear. Looking down into that transmission was a scary situation. I split the tractor, split the transmission from the rear end and engine and with a manual in hand went to work. I replaced the reverse idler gear and brass bushing it slides on. Then replaced the 3rd and 4th gears with gears from a salvaged VAC. I think you will be able to accomplish this task. By reading thoroughly and working methodically, taking some pictures, it can be done. I'd have never believed I could fix that VAC, but I did. I think you can fix the 430. gobble
