Case Black Knight ?

After viewing the Case pictures on Tractor talk I saw a few pictures of "Black Knight" tractors. What is the story behind the Black
Knight? I have seen the bicentennial Case paint scheme, but Black Knight is new to me. Marketing scheme or was Case considering a
new color combination?

When CASE debuted the 70 Series in 1969 they wanted to see as many of them working/selling as could be. We had always offered a in field Demo to show the ability's of Case equipment so that was noting new for us. By offering first the Golden Demonstrator in 1970, to make the tractors Stand Out so everyone in sight would know it was something new,, they made 550 of them I think the number was,, one for every dealer to order. With unit was to be ordered in according to what was the most sold/asked for size and to be equipped for the same reasons, the New Case cabs were the Industry standard so of course we was advised to order one with cabs fully loaded to show just how good they were, of course not all were spec'ed with cab. These units were to be broken in before the first demo was done,, some dealers did not have access to take them to the field so they just broke them in for 25-50 hours on a dyno, this was to make sure they were putting out full HP as you always gained a few ponies when they are broken in. The dealer also got a extra discount on them when selling after the demos were done,, we were also supposed to not make sell them before they had at least 200 hours of demo on the tach, the program worked so well in 1971 they extended the program and added even more distinctive Satin Black paint and covered all Desert Sunset paint. These were soon dubbed by Case people and dealers as Black Knights. These were made 71 and 72 with 2500 aprox total made.

Thanks for the reply. Shortly after I posted I remembered the gold demo tractors. Sounds like Case had a pretty aggresive demo program going back then. I also remember the white Farmall demonstrators, and the gold Ford demonstrators. I believe alot of those demos were repainted to the standard colors when sold. Did Case tend to do the same thing , or sell them with the demo paint jobs? I really appreciate folks like you that can share their knowledge with the rest of us. (and pictures too)

Case never offered/suggested to repaint one no,, I know of at least one Spirit the customer had him repaint to std colors,, also seen a number of demo's repainted but never heard of any being done when sold new, I should have added Case also offered the same program in their Compact line as well,

This is a Black Knight version they also made Golden Demos..

Tom, do you remember the Timex watch dealers gave out for a demo? I worked for the dealer and needed a watch. He charged me about $3.00 which was 3 hours of work @ 1.00 per hour. It lasted me about 4 years so wasn't a bad deal.

I do remember the box of them yes, you got a lot more time out of a watch than I did,, 6 months to a year was the very most I got,, that was hand wind up wrist watches,, Mom thought it was because I wound them too tight,, so she bought me a self winding one,, lasted almost all day,,, yes I used my hands so much I kept winding it until it broke,, she returned it and got me another hand wind,, I remember ordering by mail the bran new digital battery operated one,, remember those the first ones had a red digital display that you had to push the button on the side to see what time it was,,,, It did not make it till noon,, I was ticked i had saved every penny to order that thing,, it was like 22.00 with shipping,, I do a lot better since I got my first cell phone and quit wearing a watch in 94 I think it was
