Eagle hitch repair 1963 310-b

Greetings from sunny California
I am in the process of fixing a problem, perhaps one of you can answer a question for me
The piston that is located under the seat, inside the rear differential has been leaking hydraulic fluid into the rear end.

I have it all apart, not complicated, my question is the 2 black seals on the piston are so rock hard I cannot tell if they were originally buena-n orings or something else

310B utility tractor's Eagle hitch pistons from the factory had 2 steel piston rings (like an engine piston ring). Perhaps someone has swapped steel rings with o-rings, or the piston came from another Case tractor model although I don't know which one, if any, had a piston with 2 o-rings. There are several different Case hitch piston styles and seals. The older 1956-1957 310 utility had 1 steel ring and 1 o-ring.

Click on the link below for the 300B series parts manual for the Eagle hitch piston info. Click on the exploded parts view to enlarge.

Note the parts list shows the 300B series tractors as 1958 - 1959. That's because they were only built in 1958 - 1959 model years (Nov 1957 - Sep 1959). There are some differences between the 1958 & 1959 model year tractors so you may need to know which year in order to buy a correct part. Your tractor originally had a model/serial nr tag on the left side of the dash housing. 1958 sn begins with 6095009, 1959 sn begins with 6120001. If your tag is missing, post back and I or someone else will advise how to determine which year built.

CASE used several different seal configurations before finally standardizing on one in 1965. Yours sounds like the 2 - O-ring configuration.
We can talk it over. We stock the O rings. E-Mail is open.

Can you tell me if the orings on the piston are actually d rings? One flat side?
