1970 Case 1170 Black Knight

I have a Case 1170 Black Knight and wanted to know if there is any way to check and see if it is a Factory Unit or if someone has just painted that color.

Hi Joe,
In our "Black Knight" "1070" there is a brass plate just kitty corner to serial# that lists our dealership"s unit.My uncle has the tractor, and the plate was still there a couple years ago.
Hope that might help you

Thanks for the replies. I'll look for the plate and if it doesn't have one I'll take the Serial No. to the Dealer and have him check it.

I found a great place to lookup Serial Numbers.

But according to their list the 1170 starts at 8650001 in 1970 and the 1175 starts at 8674001 in 1971. With my serial number being 8677791 it looks like my tractor is a 1971 built 1175 that must have been repainted to look like an 1170 Demonstrator. I'm really confused now. Hopefully Racine can give me a build sheet and clear it all up.

Thanks for the help

Update: No luck on getting a Build Sheet yet but I did talk to the previous owner and he told me he purchased the tractor in 1978. He was sure it was an original Black Knight and gave me the name of a salesman who worked at the dealership that sold the tractor new. I called the salesman and he informed me it was an original Black Knight and the Dealership had sold 2 or 3 Black Knights. I have to say for an Original Black Knight mine is in mint condition and I'm glad I bought. It's been a great Tractor for 40 years.
