Question about 311RN Throttle Linkage

Throttle linkage spring broke on my 311 round nose yesterday. Went to TSC and found one, modified it to the correct length, but it is not exact. How sensitive is the governor and throttle operation to this spring tension? Does it have to be exact of just close?

If the spring is the same tension as the original or very close it will work fine, but you already know that. Personally I would ask John Saeli (315) 585-9826 if he can provide the correct spring VT4588 sub A30572, p/n may have been changed again.

This pic linkage return spring VT2434 sub A29988 is often missing on the 300 series, it is NA so you are stuck with a hardware store hunt to get a compatible tension. Whatever gov spring you end up with this spring will help smooth out the linkage as will cleaning out & lubing the throttle rod bracket bolted to the engine block.

If you can't find a spring, you can go on McMaster Car. They can make a spring for you or may have one in stock that will be close. I have an old trip plow that I need a spring that that pulled trip lever back. It is close to what was on the plow.
