Case dealer search

Well, the crops are all in, the tractors are put away, and there is snow coming. That means it's time for me to beg for more Case dealers again. If you happen to remember anything at all about any Case dealers in the past I would greatly appreciate it if you would share that info with me to add to the dealer list. I currently have 2150 former JI Case dealers but there were about twice that many in 1950. Many thanks to everyone who has volunteered information in the past. Don

Don, I noticed a couple I thought I had given you are missing from the list on Mark's calendar.

1: Tebo Implement in Norton, Kansas (second store owned by this family; A&T in Norton was a partnership between the son [Ron and Eldon Ambrosier]) At one time they had 3 stores--flagship in Hill City, Norton, and Hoxie. The Hoxie store burned down and was not replaced.

2: Torgersons in Ethridge, Montana. They were originally an IH dealer going back to 1914. I have lived in Montana 35 years as of December 30 and they were a Case dealer when I moved here. They are still in business as a CNH dealer although they lost the NH franchise 3 years ago. They have currently have stores in Ethridge, Havre, Kalispell, Great Falls, Denton, Lewistown and Billings .and I think in Terry where they bought out Falkenstern

New to this forum; but trying to find info about a Case Dealer in Harlan, Indiana (10 miles east of Ft. Wayne) from 1940s-50s. About all I know is the owner of this small dealership (I believe dealership - at least was able to get & sell new Case tractors) had just delivered my dad a new Case tractor (off-set steering, 2 narrow-set front wheels/tires & hand/lever clutch) on our rented farm (dad did the dairy and farming) near Lagrange, Indiana on approximately December 31, 1951. (Dad was taking over the operation beginning 1/1/52). I think the dealer & and deliverer name was Wilbur Snyder (don't know correct spelling of Snyder). Wilber unloaded the tractor in our barnyard and immediately suffered a heart attack - dad & mom got him to our house, where he died on our sofa later that evening. My older brother knows the story a bit better than I, but essentially that's all we know. Does anyone know more about Wilbur or his Harlan "dealership"?
Thanks,
Bill in Leo, Indiana (just west of Harlan)

A couple of weeks ago I ran across a 1951 ElDorado,KS phone book in a antique
mall...I looked thru it and the town had 6 implement dealers back then....The Case
dealer was Rohrbaugh Motor & Implement Co located at 225 N Main Street...I don't
know if you have it or not..Today I don't think that ElDorado has a single tractor
dealer left..John Deere was the last to leave..

Hello Bill, and welcome to the Case Forum!

Thank you very much for the dealer in Harlan, IN. I don't have any information on him at all. That's quite the story of his delivering the tractor and then suffering a heart attack.

You are correct in assuming that Mr. Snyder may not have had much of a dealership in 1951.
1953 seems to be the year when Case forced their dealers to offer on site diesel repair service for the new 500 and soon to be released 400 tractors. That action eliminated a whole bunch of small guys that were most likely just part time reps for Case. Hopefully someone has additional info about Mr. Snyder. Thanks again, Don

Don, Do you have a Stuven Implement in Pipestone mn? Somewhere I have a metal strip with the Case Power and Equipment Winner SD. I also ran across information for a dealer In Cherekee Iowa. If I remember the name was Booth Implement the owner and his son were killed in a plane crash in the mid fifties.

Don, do you have anything on Assman Implement? I think they were, are out of Mission SD. For years they were the Case experts, even after Sandhill Equipment started selling Case.

I do have them listed but the only info is that they were in business in the 70's. Do you know anything else? Are they still in business? Thanks, Don

I do have Steuvan (spelling uncertain) in Pipestone, also Ed Rust and Francis Walkup. I don't know when each was the dealer for sure. I did not have CPE for Winner, SD. I have a Booth Implement in Aurelia, IA. Would this be the same people, or maybe an earlier location? I do have a dealer unknown in Cherokee, IA. Thanks for your help. Don

Don I noticed in your list that is in the 175th anniversary colander that you have a Heiling imp. at Beaver Dam ,WI. There was also a Heiling imp at Bernet, WI. also. I think the two had some family relation but they were separate entities. I have a old short line flyer from a short line distributor that I picked up at a swap meet that is addressed to them. I also attended votec school with on of their mechanics in the late 60s. I never did any business with them but my brother bought garden tractor parts from them when he was collecting them.

Thanks for the reminder! Heling's Garage in Burnett was a Case, AC, Studebaker (and Zenith TV) dealer related to the Beaver Dam Helings. The son-in-law who took over the business was killed by a car while repairing a combine on a highway. That was pretty much the end of the business. I left them out of the list for some reason. Thanks again, Don

Don, How about Nutcher Equipment in Turlock, Ca. No longer in business since late 70's. Also their cousin had N & S Equipment in Merced, Ca. They are still in business, Case iH Dealer now. Dick

I Don, I grew up near Pipestone. Stueven Implement was owned by Herman Stueven, and I believe that is how it is spelled, during the late 50's and early 60"s. Ed Rust started sometime in the late 60's. I didn't know Walkup Implement sold Case he had Oliver in the late 60's. I have relation in Pipestone who may know more about walkup and case. If he had it it was before Stueven and Rust purchased it from Stueven. He also purchased Case power and Equipment in Marshall. His business was involved in the farm crisis as he had financial trouble and protesters were supporting him. I believe he farmed near Hills Mn before starting a dealership.

Do you have any idea what Ed Rust' dealership was called? Was he the one in financial trouble during the 80's? Walkup was featured in the Case Eagle in the late 40's as having 2 dealerships, if I remember correctly one was in SD and the other in Pipestone. Don

I looked at my notes and it says that Walkup was featured in the Case Eagle in 1945 and he was a Case/MM dealer. I'm guessing that the Case strike in 1946 put him out of the Case business as it did many others. Don

I should know what it was called I did business with him when I farmed but it's not coming to me. I will ask about walkup imp. I remember my family bought a 600 from Stueven Imp in 1959 and an used sc a few years later. When we got the 600 case-o-matic was hard for some people to run. Mostly because the didn't want to listen and learn. The sc was for me to learn to cultivate with. That lasted one half day. At noon the hired man took it and I had to run the four row rear mount. He wouldn't Have anything to do with that rear mount. That was the last time the sc cultivated and I had to do it all.

Don, 3 dealers come to mind that I have not seen on the list in south central Nebraska, Ells Imp. in Hebron, Ne. Alfs Implement & Drilling in Shickley Ne. still drilling wells, and Husky Imp in Hastings Ne. all in business prior to the 70's

This picture was just recently in our local newspapers yesterday's pictures.I believe the Implement dealership was previously owned by Homan and Daldrup. I will see if I can dig up some more info .

The C.A.S.E. dealer in Abilene Tx. is now ASCO still ran by Randy Roberts as it was 30+ years ago. The spelling for Alva Gannon in Ravenna Mo needs be changed to Ravanna. There was a dealer in Gallatin Mo. in 60s. Do not have or remember name.
a245088.jpg

Thanks for all the information. Is it possible the dealer in Gallatin was the Tolbert/Scott Motor and Implement Co.? Probably a car/tractor dealership in the 50's. Don

There was a Case dealer in Lexington, In. in the 60's. I know hardly nothing about them. They brought a 430 to demonstrate on my uncles farm. Him being a diehard John Deere guy, he didn't buy it. They left it for about a week. With the triple range, it seemed like it would fly on the road. We used it to pull hay wagons down the road to the barn. I read, I think in Antique Power Magazine, There was a Case dealer in Bedford, Ky, which is the county I live in. The article said he didn't sell anything but VAC's. There were a lot of VAC's around when I was growing up. Nothing else Case but VAC's and a few G's.

Hi Don, don't know if you have these, Koch Implement Winsted MN owed by Vern Koch. He got into trucking in early 70's after the case dealership. Vern's son still runs K-way transport and they still have case posters up in the building. His brother Victor had the case dealership in Waconia MN at the same time and he got into running school buses in the 70's. Roger Stanley bought the dealership from Vern in the late 70's and closed up in 82(tough farm economy).

Brian

Do you have the list somewhere that it can be viewed? I have some, but think I have have given them to you already.

Hello Rick,

I have a Kizer Implement from Garrison, IA. I know they sold an LA in 1949. Do you think they are the dealer you are describing? Maybe a different owner? I am from Sturgeon Bay, WI and some of my favorite memories are trips to the Case dealership in the late 50's and 60's. Don

For Carthage, MO I have Tong Implement. Does that sound correct? For West Plains I have Howlco Sales from literature with the new logo on it. Does that sound right? Might have been . other dealers before or after. Thanks for your help with this. Don

Leighton Jones was the Case dealer in Ipswich SD I remember Dad buying parts for our VAC and SC in the early 60s. My brother still has the SC. There is a bar a couple of miles from my farm that has the original dealer sign hanging in their bar along with other antiques.

I remember a story about Leighton. But as the years pass a lot of color is sometimes added to the story. Here it goes aa I remember it........ Seems that Leighton was working the parts counter carrying a rather heavy sprocket when he suddenly dropped it on his foot. It cut through his shoe and into his foot. As his foot started bleeding he said "Dear me but is that smarts. Would someone help me take off my shoe?" Not sure that is what I would have said.............

Don, just google search Assman Implement and their web-site pops up. Says they've been a family run business since 1969.
Still selling CaseIH and many other short-line brands with an emphasis on loader tractors and hay equipment for the rancher.

You should just call their 800 number sometime and ask to speak to one of the owners. I'll bet if they're not terribly busy, they'd probably visit with you on the phone and give you a good bit of history. I've stopped there a couple of times in my travels and they always seem to be very accommodating.

One of the last times I was there, they had two 430 shuttle shift tractors on the lot that were turned around backwards by an after-market kit to make hayloaders out of them. This would be for bucking and stacking loose hay. It was the way to make hay back in the day before round balers.

Do you have Ellis Implement Co. CasecSales and Service in Ridgway Illinois, i have a repair order for an sc on oct 1944 from there. the way i heard it was they were in business until around 1960 when they closed and Howards Implement opened in shawneetown as the local case dealer.

Assman Implement pronounced Ozman.

bought a half dozen tractors and loaders from Gregg or Chris in the 90's. wished I had a few of them back today.

Don ,,. I might have told you Shaffer 's implement, and or Case dealership in new Albany Indiana ,..Alvin Shaffer was the owner and sold a lot of flambeau letter series in our area ,.the Case big britches forced him out before 1970,. a lot of good mechanics around here started out in his shop , and loved the way Alvin and his wfe looked after them ... dad bought serveral vac, a sc and f-2 case combine about 1951, and lastly the best 1966 diesel 430 case ever built,. and I have it now ... I recall seeing their painted up CASE DEALER pugnosed Ford delivery truck when we stoppt by the place .. and they always had some real neat toys that ended up under our Christmas tree ,. we loved the toys too much because we destroyed them , I recall a pair of plastic wheeled 800 tricycle my brother and I got,. after a few monthes we broke the wheels ,. and my mother tried everything to glue them back .. I would bet they could be found in the old sink hole dump ..

Firesteel Garage Firesteel So Dak Started mid 40s had fire in mid 50s and closed My dad bought a new dc4 in 1950 also a new vac14 in 1954 from there.

kizer would be right.i was thinking it was something with K.building is still there.ill try to remember to look to see if there are still any visible markings painted on building.

Been there done that at that case dealer in New Albany ,father did a lot of business with dealer, as a young guy would love to visit down stairs new units, eyes were bigger than my dads billfold. I think Hunt tractor had a little something to do with them on what they could sell. I think they moved to Corydon In.

DON, do you have any dealers for Hastings, Michigan or Wayland, MI? My dad bought his 830 from the Wayland, MI dealer in 85. They brought me out a new pedal tractor upon delivery. I will have to ask my dad if he can remember the name of the dealership. The Hastings dealer is where my grandpa bought his first new tractor, a 1946 VAC. He later bought a 52 DC, which I now have. There is most of the original dealership sticker still visible on the side of the fuel tank. I believe it was Eibert Fransico? I will have to look again tonight and verify.

Hi Don,

How about:

Adams Equipment, Adams North Dakota ( Straight west 14 mi from our Edinburg dealership)
Morrison Equipment, Cavalier N.D.
Anderson's Sales Inc. Cavalier N.D. ( Our Cavalier dealership)
Schramm Implement, Langdon N.D.( They took over when Yantes went out, tough times for a while there)
Yantes Implement, Langdon N.D.
Dan

I have a mechanics jacket from Linne Brothers Case in Troy Grove, Illinois. I was researching well known USAC dirt track midget and sprint car builder Howard Linne when I got the jacket. Howard was also supposedly a MF dealer just down the road from the Case dealer, but spent most of his efforts building race cars from the 1950's to the 1980's.

Also, my hometown Ford dealer in Cascade Iowa was apparently a Case tractor dealer for a time in the 1950's. When the dealer Weber Motor Sales, Cascade, Iowa moved to a new building a few years ago, a small auction was held. Lots of old stuff was stored in an attic. I managed to buy correspondence from the Case district/zone office in Des Moines, including two hard bound dealer announcement and pricing manuals for 1958 and 1959.

Forgot tong took over Murrell but way back in the 50s was a dealer with another name.for the life of me I can't remember but a neighbor worked for them till they closed then went to Lamar and worked for Todd till they sold out

Darn another Thomas implement at Altamont kansas.b been in business since cross motor days.family owned and operated.old school dealer call with a case problem and you will get a thorough explanation and how to fix it too.bought lots of parts from them too

I went this summer to an auction in Rodelia, Ky, an estate sale. The guys name was Paul ? he had several Case tractors. He must have been a Case fan, because he had several trucks Ford and Dodge, painted case colors.

I have seen Case Power and Equipment in Aledo Il mentioned in other posts. Attached a shot of a well weathered sticker (if you can read it) on my 970 that originated from there.
a245216.jpg

For Wayland I have Aflen and Associates from a 1982 ad. For Hastings I have Francisco Farm Supply from a tractor umbrella. That's all the info I have. Don

Hello Dan,

Thanks for the dealer info! One question I have is what was the name of your Edinburg dealership and what years was your family representing Case? Thanks again, Don

That 430 was the first hay sweep I ran. I pushed a lot of hay with it. Assman gave up the CaseIH line a couple years ago, I thought.
I assume you have Sandhill Equipment too?

Hi Don,

Anderson's Sales Inc. Edinburg also.
1958- 1997 ( We close the store)

Nice pic. The real one sold new for around $4000. The peddle version at today's prices in NOS condition ????? O Snap.

there was a Case dealer in near us that quit selling equipment in the early seventies. The name was G.H. Brock Case Equipment, Richmond Quebec, Canada

we had purchased forage equipment from this dealer some years ago before he closed the doors. But we never bought any tractors there.

I was there too, mike ,.. pollard was the name I think ,.did you get anything ? ,.. I got the case disc ,.. pt plow and the junk vac 13 .. you are rihght about hunts pushing out Shaffer tractor ,. ,,.the corydon ind location was run by allen bickel and family ,.. although he favored case and serviced them and liked to trade in them ,,.. I don't think he was a authentic case dealer ,. perhaps don would know,. allen overhauled pops 51 dc in 1972.. he worked on every color and could fix anything ,,. he became a allis chalmer dealer about 1972 and went deep into debt,.. he had nearly crawled out of there by 1980 ,.. but hi interest put him andeveryone else in our farming area in a downward spiral , he quit,or the banks quit him about 1990,. I bought a 140 acre farm from him ,.. that he promised me I would not regret buying ,,.. he was SO RIGHT,..he died at age 55 or so from complications of a botched hernia surgery ,..

How about one from So. Calif ? In the '60's and '70's along side the Santa Ana Fwy in La Mirada, was a Case dealership called Harron Rickard & McCone. They were an old time contractor's machinery distributor since the 'teens , with branches in San Francisco and Los Angeles . I'd guess they moved out of L.A to the suburb of La Mirada after the war. They later moved to S. El Monte , and became part of the Case Power and Equipment chain .Next they were bought up by Contractors Equipment of San Diego. Sold again in 2000. to D3 equipment and in 2010 , sold again to Carrier Transicold and operated as Sonsray equipment.....

MY DAD WAS A CASE DEALER FROM 1957 UNTIL 1967. THE COMPANY WAS C & H TRACTOR & PARTS COMPANY LOCATED IN SNEAD, ALABAMA. MY BROTHER AND I BECAME A CASE DEALER IN 1988 AND ARE STILL IN BUSINESS, SNEAD EQUIPMENT IN SNEAD, AL. WE HAVE SEEN QUITE A FEW CHANGES OVER THE YEARS. NOT MANY CASE DEALERS LEFT IN ALABAMA. I HOPE TO KEEP THE BUSINESS IN THE FAMILY AS MY SON AND SON-IN-LAW WORK WITH US. ALSO I HAVE MANAGED TO FIND AND PURCHASE THE FIRST AND THE LAST CASE TRACTORS DAD SOLD. I CURRENTLY HAVE ABOUT 50 OF THE OLDER CASE TRACTORS IN MY COLLECTION WITH THE OLDEST ONE BEING A 1918, 10/18 CROSSMOTOR.
BELOW ARE A FEW OF THE OTHER ALABAMA CASE DEALERS I REMEMBER FROM THE 1960'S.

SPENCER IMPLEMENT ATHENS, AL

PERRY BROWN TRACTOR ALBERTVILLE, AL

Joe,

Thank you for the family history, info on your collection, and the additional old Case dealers! You have greatly increased my Alabama Case dealer numbers. Also, glad to hear you have kept the family business going and I want to wish you good luck bringing the next generation on. The farm equipment business is no picnic as my database reminds me every time I look at it.

Thanks again,

Don

When I was a kid my dad showed me where the dealer was in Bardstown, Ky. Back then a old Case VAC sit behind the building and I would always see it. That building has now changed to a hotel and the VAC is long gone. I am sure he told me what the dealers name was but I have long since forgot it. Since he is no longer around to ask I ask people who may know but haven't had any luck.

There was a Case dealer for years in south La. that my dad did business with called Agricultural Equipment Co. in Eunice, Louisiana.

Brad do you still have this sign by any chance? This is the dealership my grandfather owned. I would be EXTREMELY interested in getting it back into the family.

Has anybody given you information about Mather Implement in Laurens Iowa? Mather was a Case dealer until the great breakup occurred.
