Case 730 gas

There is a Case 730 CK narrow front close to me for sale. It says engine is loose but needs new electrical parts. Looks like all the plug wires are missing. They want $1500. Good deal or not? I do not need it at all as I have way to many tractors already but have always liked the looks of the 830-930-1030's and also like narrow fronts. I have never even driven a Case. You can see it on Dubuque Iowa Craigslist. Maybe someone on here will buy it so I can quit tempting myself. Would an 830-930 be better. We farm around 120 acres and have beef cows. Right now use a 4230 and a bunch of 3020's and 4020's. Tom

I saw it on Craigslist today. It looks like someone was doing engine work and quit before they finished the job. No paint on the heads is what makes me think that. You should buy it. If nothing else it will add some color to your farm yard.

I can’t see the picture, because obviously Craig’s list is out of my area, so my question is. Does this tractor have a flare floor, with one shift lever sticking up from the floor ? If it does it would be a comfort king. If it has two shift levers, then it is the earlier Dual Range model. I have the Dual Range model, and they are a bit awkward to get on and off of, and have the older style Eagle hitch pth arms, while the Comfort King model has the modern style swinging lift arms. I like my 730 for many jobs, but the 930 and 1030 can handle forage wagons and good sized grain wagon, were the 730 isn’t really heavy enough. 730 is nice on small square baler or haybine or hay rake, those kind of jobs that don’t require as much hp or weight. $1500.00 sounds like a fair price if the tires are decent

I would recommend driving a running Case 30 series tractor before buying a non-running tractor to fix up. 30 Series engines and transmissions are strong and reliable. The steering, brakes, hydraulics, seat and ergonomics are very different compared to the JD new generation tractors that you are used to. Only you can really determine if you like it or not.

With only fair rear tires, I would stop short of $1,000 on that non-running 730 with parts missing. In running condition it is probably a $2,000 to $3,000 tractor.

Bruce,
Here is a picture of the tractor.

I bought this tractor at a farm auction about 25 years ago. The original owner had just completed a valve job, note the unpainted heads. I used it to pull a 469 Haybine and a JD hay rake, it was used to
carry round bales to feed cattle. The Hydraulics and 3pt worked well. I rented my land 20 years ago and tractor got parked. No need for it to take up space. The coil and spark plug wires were taken off and
used on another project. The pictures show the starter is off but it was being used on a different Case tractor. while it's starter was being rebuilt. The starter is now back on the 730. Since the tractor
sat for that I removed the valve covers and oiled the valve train, and ran oil down the pushrods, I also squirted oil on top of each piston. The valve covers have been put back on. The engine rolls over easy
(spark plugs out) by just pulling on the fan blades. This is being sold as a project tractor. About the same price as a cheap riding lawnmower at Home Depot
