Put a new rim on this hub last year...after moving snow about 1/2 hour i see three lug nuts are out and rest are loose...rim stayed on the ridge it looks like...but at least two holes are too loose to take a lug nut

I found a replacement hub that should work but it says they are 9/16 threads and I know these are 1/2...I have not bought it yet.

questions ...how do I keep this thing tight...

Can I just pull this off and thread the old hub at 9/16 NF to try it...

Am I missing something here as to why I have issues...the old rim was all welded up and apparently had issues in the past as the other side is as well.

Case hubs tend to do that! I sold a 1070 hub off a parts tractor I have to a guy that had same issue....3 lose lug bolts and a wrecked rim. I don't think you have enough clearance at the back of the hub to get lock nuts on the bolts, if you could find longer lug bolts? The other option maybe to tighten them all up and put a spot of weld on the back of each lug bolt. I think they stick through the back of the hub by a couple of threads? I know that's not a real good option but it might work if the tractor stays close to your yard at least until you fit a new hub and get the wheel repaired.

and the other thing is one they have come loose and wore the holes a bit, they will not stay tight those are a taper in the rim and bolt and that is your holding it tight and also when you tighten the rim it squeezes it against the hub to hold also. blue locktite and the torque and its good. find the torque spec also . but they must be tight. approx 80-90-ft. lbs.

Yes, you can ream and tap the holes to 9/16. Best to use a drill press to keep the reamer and especially the tap, square to the face of the hub. You only need to start the tap straight, the you can take it off the drill press and finish the heavy work by hand, in a vise. (One hole at a time)
If I understand this correctly, the NEWER hub has 9/16 tapped holes?
I have screwed 9/16 NF Grade 8 bolts into the hub from the BACKSIDE, then tacked the head to the cast hub (MIG welder!) to keep them from unscrewing when removing the rim down the road. This effectively turns the hub into studded hubs. You may have to enlarge the 1/2 inch holes in the rim. You may also be able to salvage the original hub by screwing 1/2 inch bolts in from the backside. In either case, you will need to find new lug nuts to fit, but most every farm store or tire shop will have them.
I would not use a lock washer, as almost every rim out there uses a tapered seat to receive the underside of the lug nut or lug bolt. The tapered part of the nut or lug bolt will easily expand and break the lock washer. Assuming the lugs are tightened properly, and the lugs and rim seats are not too damaged, they will not come loose. Millions of them are out there. It works. If there is damage, tighten and loosen each nut several times to seat the taper better. And CHECK them for tightness several times in the first hours after doing this, especially if there was rim damage.

Did you use a torque wrench?

Get longer bolts and put a lock washer on them.

cant use lockwashers on tapered bolt. torqueing them is the answer.

put blue loctite on the threads and tighten it. use it and check it. have to be tight or they will loosen.
