Thought I was going to buy it

You probably seen in an earlier post I was going to buy this tractor. When I called they said it runs good..... I went to look at it (an hour away) I get there and notice right off no battery, (ok, no big deal) then I see the sediment bowl is broken, (hmmm) check the gas tank (full of rust and varnish) check radiator (dry and full of rust) walk to the other side NO CARBURETOR, grab the fan (nothing) try the hand crank, motor is stuck! So I asked about the carburetor (we took it off about 2 years ago to have a guy rebuild it and we can't track him down) then I said, you told me last night on the phone that it runs good. It does, or it did when we parked it in the shed. Ok, when was that? About 5 or 6 years ago. Well, I'm going to pass I said, they reply its worth what I'm asking in scrap. He wants $900. In running condition like they said I probably would have bought it, they said if they get it running they'll want $1500. Tires were decent at best and sheet metal was good, but definitely not a $1500 tractor! I'd sure like to know where he's selling scrap at that price!

Yeah, when they just outright lied about it running. If they had said ran good 5 years ago that's a different story. And scrap prices here are $55-60/ton

That little oil puddle on the floor certainly indicates it hasn't been sitting in that spot long, not to mention 5,6 years. That leak appears to be between the engine and bell housing but not on the side like from the starter. I would bet there is a split in that tractor's near future after it is run for a short time.

Another 'Case' of too good to be true. At least you didn't have to drive too far to find out. Over at Mulkeytown, " Mr. Haney" has a couple of VAC's and quite an assortment of machinery. If your over that way sometime, it is interesting to have a look. In the past I've bought a 300, a 500B, and a 3 bottom Case plow. He's always been honest with me, so I knew what kind of "junk" I was buying.

I'm only a couple miles from Haney's. Those VAC's are junk. I stopped and looked at them. One doesn't even have a fuel tank and he wants way too much. I've bought several items from him over the years and always look them over really good too.

when a feller buyin 99% of the time its to high priced..least i never been offered more than i wanted
