Identify my case

TractorNB

New User
Hey . Just bought this old case tractor . I was told it was a 1968 case 430 after looking it over I believe it is quite a lot older and perhaps not a 430. I tried looking up the serial number on the side of the steering column but havent been able t find a model number just the factory location. Is it a 411 Case? It also looks like a 300 series. It is a diesel tractor and will be just using it for plow one my driveway come winter time but would like to know the model number and possibly year if I could to find parts.

Thanks everyone

Im having some trouble using the photo upload option on this forum. Forgive me as I am new but here are some photos of the tractor serial numbers

Shoot. Never knew that , it just seemed like they were not uploading ...

So on the engine block it says 2062992
On the column it says 6126062
On the side of the gear box G1096G1411

I am not an expert, but if that one number you gave is right and the YT list of serials is right it is a 300b or 301 b if it is a row crop.

Does it look like either of these?

Thats what has me puzzled. It isnt narrow in the front like pictures and the exhaust goes up through the hood not on the side . It does look like the same headlights and such as the one in the second picture though

Assuming that tag is attached to the tractor it is the wrong tag. 411B is a 1958-1959 COM tractor nothing like what you have. Your tractor is 1960 or later with dry clutch along with the optional hand clutch and probably with the optional triple range gear train. Looks like it might have individual gauges.

Right off hand looks like a 1960-1964 430 utility tractor but need more pics, both sides, rear, & dash with good pic of gauges. You can put pics same place with a URL and I'll upload them for you until you get up to speed with posting pics.

Thats a 430,, but the serial tag is from a 1959 400B/411B someone swapped the dash tin is my guess,, first off a 400B aka 411B would not have the CASE dsl engine,, nor would it have that hood or axles like yours has and would have been a CASE-O-Matic,, which a 430 never had as it only came in dry clutch like yours has, it is a early 430 from 1960-1963,

Above is new pictures of it, so yeah the cluster and vin plate must be off of a 300?
Question. I have almost everything wired back up properly however the alternator isnt charging (pretty sure its no good, its a ac delco 350, have wire jumpers together , one going to key on power and the charge wire going to the Battery cable on the starter )
The only other issue Im having is the intake manifold heater doesnt appear to be getting hot. Its getting power at the element. Would you guys reccomend changing the intake manifold air heater , or would simply plugging it in be adequate for cold weather starting ?

(quoted from post at 15:28:59 09/08/20) Here are your pics. I didn't see a dash pic or any other new tractor pics at this URL.

Should be a 3rd and 4th picture on there if you swipe right on the app. Maybe the browser version wont show any more then two pictures

Looks like a Johnny Cash special to me. The engine and chassis are a 430, but the dash and fenders are from an earlier tractor.

Joe, when did Case offer the Draft-O-Matic on the 430, as opposed to the Eagle Hitch? Also when did Case switch Gage Panels from the single to individual gages? This looks to be a Draft-O-Matic but has the single gage, which I assume is where your Johnny Cash special came from.

RJKeith, the last Eagle Hitch was serial number 8214360, which would have been produced in February of 1963. Anything with a 3-pt hitch thereafter would have been a DOM setup. The cluster gauges would have started with the 300 roundnose using a brown-faced Stewart Warner. When the 530 and 630 production began in 1960, Case use a new vendor for the cluster gauges. Autolite gauges had a more rectangle/box look about the individual gauges within the cluster. After a significant amount of trouble with the Autolite clusters, Case went back to Stewart Warner clusters with serial number 8191147 (early 1962). The 430s, like the 200B never had a cluster gauge setup. They had single gauges and warning lights for Gen & Oil pressure.

I didn't mean to insult with the "Johnny Cash" comment. I was simply suggesting the tractor was comprised of parts from different years, much like the Cadillac in Johnny Cash's song One Piece At A Time song.

I forgot to mention the newer cluster gauges from stewart warner had a black face instead of the brown face on the pre-1960 gauges.

Shes pretty ugly but Im just glad it seems to run good . Hoping to get a few years out of it plowing the yard hahaha

Thanks Joe. My 430 has the DOM and the warning lights, while my 300, and 630 have the cluster gauge, with the 300 a brown face and the 630 a black face.

I didn't think the Johnny Cash comment a disparagement, I remember the song and interpreted it just the way you meant.
