Case 830 help.

Hey guys!

I'm looking into buying a case 830 tractor. I just had a few questions I'd like help on.

1) What is a Comfort King? What makes it different?

2) How do you identify if it has a case-o-matic transmission?

3) other than a head gasket, are there any common issues on this tractor that would cause coolant out the overflow?

Thanks!
Randy

The early 30 series you sat low with your feet on either side of
the transmission on foot rests. They also had the case eagle
hitch in most cases. Later they came with the comfort king
where you sit higher and they got a standard 3pt hitch.

Coolant out the over flow could be head gasket, cracked
head, or burned fuel cel. If it's diesel I would expect cracks in
the heads even if that's not your cause. They can easily be
fixed in most cases tho. Find a shop that does the Loc-n-stitch
method as that has worked for me.

If it's a case-o-matic and comfort king it will have two levers
left of the steering column and a hydraulic valve on the left
side where the clutch housing is.

Randy: 830's were built from 1960 thru 1969. With the introduction of the Comfort King models in 1965, CASE jumped ahead light years, going from the Eagle Hitch style to the modern Cat. 2, 3 point hitch and the "Draft-O-Matic" lower link draft control, and improved PTO and driver comfort.
Transmissions on the 830's are all the same, a mechanical 8 speed tranny. However, a standard automotive dry clutch was available as well as the fluid drive Torque Converter aka "Case-O-Matic". C-O-M will be identified by a decal on both sides of the fuel tank. Or, look @ the clutch pedal. If the linkage goes forward into the bell housing, she has a dry clutch, but if the pedal controls a valve spool mounted to the side of the tranny, then she's a C-O-M.
If she's spewing coolant, you'd be lucky if it was a head gasket. Blowing head gaskets is not a common issue. What is common with the 830 diesel, after overheating or the use of Ether is cracked heads and cracked upper counterbores in the block.
