Case DC Brakes

This weekend I finally got the brakes for both sides cleaned up, new seals, and put back together. I tried burning the oil out of the discs. I guess I will find out if works...

Spray them real good with brake parts cleaner, then take some sandpaper to rough up the linings. That should get you by for a while, but if they're oil soaked too bad you'll need to get new linings. They're not bad or very expensive to replace, I did my DC brakes last winter.

I burn them too. Use lacquer thinner to wash/scrub between burns.
Do this 15/20 times and they get better than they were. Be extremely careful with the lacquer thinner as it will bun in the rivet holes with small fire after the rest has gone out. Life can get exciting, I nearly did that once.

i hope that the disassembly pictures. there is a product called brake clean and that is what it was designed for. seams nowadays people think its a parts cleaner which it is, but expensive. you dont need to burn anything.

If I was you I would buy the reline kits and save you some work,, once they are oil soaked they are junk,, but its your time to waste,, learned this some 40 plus years ago,, well worth the few bucks to reline them, hopefully you replaced all the springs and reaction balls, cleaned up the actuators as well, to me if you did not you just wasted your time,, I cant count the ones I have fixed after some one else attempted,, to fix them this way and then cry the blues and say what a junk brake system they used

Tucker, My dad had a 611B and we did the same thing to get oil out of the linings. Put it back together and I had top redo it again. I have learned over time short cuts do not pay. I will be working on my 400 round nose this winter and I do not take short cuts to save time . Just my thoughts . Jerry from Ohio
