Early 430 PTO inner seal removal ?

I’m trying to remove the seal between the transmission and rear housing ? It looks like there might be a tapered piece of metal over the seals with a snap ring that I need to remove? In the past I’ve been able to drill a hole and insert a screw to pull the seal but it looks like I need to remove an outer piece ? Any advise on removing the seals I’d appreciate.
Thanks Dick

I am too deaf to do phone calls, I have to use a caption machine (voice to text) that is slow like the satellite phones we used at sea in the 1980's - 90's.

Look at this pic, if you see a brass bushing in there it is early 430 up to sometime in 1966. There is nothing aft of the seal, just pry it out. If it is a brass bushing go to the 1st link for parts view & p/n's https://avspare.com/catalog/case/56605/4822457/784981/

If you look in there and see a needle bearing, it is mid 1966 and later and will have an expansion clamp aft of the seal. I don't have a pic of that I can find right now. Prying out that clamp so you can reuse it is possible but you have to go slow and be very patient. I don't know if the clamp is still available, check with John Saeli for parts. Go to the 2nd link, you can see that it is all different p/n's than the earlier 430. https://avspare.com/catalog/case/54073/57293/721734/

In any event do not use the drill & screws or a slide hammer to remove the seal as the seal housing is a light interference fit on the OD of the hollow transmission main shaft end. Not only is it tough to get in there and clean up the main shaft and press the housing back on with a sealant, the main shaft end can be damaged. To remove the seal I use a pry bar like this pic. Get one big enough to rest the heel of the bar on the seal metal on one side and the sharp end up in the rubber side and pry around the circumference.

Joe thanks for the help. It wasn’t pretty but I finally got the old seal out and new ones installed. Got the rockshaft and PTO re installed.

Good, you work fast. I knew you were a good mechanic, no need for other than the parts views.
