Case Nutty 1660

Well-known Member
I keep a eye out for odd things to add to my CASE collection, one I posted below to Don as it had a dealer name,, I was sure he had the name already on the list but still fun to see things in print confirming. I had received a dealer display ball of CASE twine a couple days I had won on auction before the dealer tags I posted below, I have seen a number of other things sell on line this summer but with the recent huge losses my farm had suffered the past three years now I really have to pick and chose what I can buy, I asked Bro about this item when I bought it he like the other half dozen i have asked never seen one before either so i am betting they are pretty darn rare indeed, glad to have it in the collection

Here I was cutting a drainage back in where my field road crosses a gully where it had silted in and was holding water too long with the 450

That's some good looking straw! Quick question here. In the garden tractor section a man asked how to replace a cooling fan on a 444 That bolt to hold it on is left hand thread isn't it?

The little ball of twine is pretty neat. Great condition too, must have been hidden in a safe place because if it was here it would have been used to tie up a gate, or hoses, etc. No idle twine or wire is safe on a farm/ranch. Would it have been a promotional item a dealer would give out for people to try?

Looks like good crop of grasshoppers too. We had them in west central Tx till they ate everything and got dry with most of August at 100+.

Tom,
That twine sure looks more uniform than what you can buy nowadays. Sorry to hear of your poor farming conditions these past years. It's tough enough as it is without bad weather added. Don

What are the pros and cons of windrowing grain before running thru combine? Grew up on a farm on the Pa/Ohio line just south of Lake Erie.
We just ran all grains thru the combine. Of course that was in the 50s --- Thanks

I had the pickup unit on the 600 already,, I was planning on putting the reel back on as i have only ran small grain through a combine this way once before,, but have ran Lots of alfalfa and grass seed this way. main reason this time was I had bought some spring wheat to plant for a couple friends who have chickens, geese ect for a bit less spendy feed for them. as I was loading the drills i see some one at the seed place had mixed in some forage barley seed with the wheat seed, I was in a hurry to get it planted and had just dumped about 5 sacks in already and had not even see the Barley until i went to pour another sack in,, I already had three sacks of barley in the drills and another 2 with the strings removed,, so i just mixed it together as they like barley also as I raise it and they always got a grain bale of it for them to dig through,, so instead of wasting the mixed seed I planted it that way, the Barley ripens faster than the wheat and was starting to shell while the wheat heads were still green, so i decide to windrow it so it could all cure out for harvesting,, the practice works for a weedy field also as the green weeds dry out and can be threshed with getting the green chop in the bin,,

alfalfa being harvested here unless we get a freeze at the right time to kill the plant top off you fight the green chop issue again,,

Here I am running Crested Wheat grass seed, again the plant stays green much of the time to long and by the time its dry enough to cut much if not all the seed has fallen out,, you can see how green the stems were still under the outside of the windrow, even after drying for over a week in 80-90 degree temps and no rain on it after it was cut
