just wondering if anyone knew how many of the 1960 Case 742 lp Standard Western Specials were made. The book only lists the COM tractors and this one is a gear drive tractor. From what I can tell, albeit there weren't many made period, the gear drives were the least made.
Found this one today. It is low houred and it really runs like a top. Thanks - Bob

Just another oddity on this tractor is that it must have been ordered with the longer rear axles. I assume for possibly stability, but would you know the reason Case provided the Standards with the longer axles? Obviously sets the rear wheels out about 3 or 4 inches wider. The seat says Case A Matic, but I had that seat as the original had been changed out. Thanks again - Bob

It may have had a set of double bevel rims installed and they are set on the wider bevel, also I had forgotten Case lost many if not most of the build cards from 1960,, so that # I gave may be way off, that said to Me that is not a uncommon unit at all other than it being LP which is a niche market at best, to me a basic common std/wheat land style unit, if it had clam fenders and EH it would add some value,, sorry but that is not anything real rare at all, have you checked on the build card yet? it may give a bit more info

No double bevel rims, longer axles. 4" wider on each side.

I thought it was 1961 that the records were lost? Regardless, it is a very low production tractor. Thanks for the info - Bob

Its 4" wider than the 1962 830C sitting right beside it. I've heard of a longer axle, but never saw one. Not saying that in itself is rare. Picture of both axles. Most are up close to the housing. This one sticks out 4" more on each side.

I guess according to key #'s 34 & 35 in the parts books there could be a different axle for the Western Specials? Not sure. I have had a dozen 830 standards over the years, but none I remember with big fenders. Must have something to do with being a WS and clearance for the big fenders or something.

all how you ordered them in and what year they were made,, I have been around a few since 1967 myself,, besides filling out order sheets for them, like I said that tractor is not rare but a bit lower production as it was ordered with LP I see LOTS of them in Canada and ND LOTS
