I have the early style 2 1/4 bowl pistons can I use the later style 2.60 bowl pistons , some overhaul kits say they replaced the early style , just want to hear from somebody that has tried it . Thanks

Without digging in deeper I would think the bowl in the pistons would have to match the heads. If you use the larger bowl it would lower the compression and make for a very hard starting engine.

The head is flat , no combustion chamber, two valves and an injector tip that protrudes maybe 1/4" below the surface, I have no info on the two bowl dimensions but wonder if the larger bowl is maybe shallower to maintain the compression needed, it would be interesting to know the CC s difference between the bowls, I know that there was a static timing change on the Cs and wonder if this was instituted at the bowl change serial number break. I would wonder if the piston change was trying to meet emissions standards and the static timing change was to get easier starting from a lower compression. I am going to explore this but doubt if actual numbers will be available without CCing the two piston bowls.

If I remember right the different bowls in the pistons were for emissions, the head is the same but the injectors are different because of spray angle,i believe that if you change injectors it will work ok.
