case 830 284 gas engine

Anybody ever work on an 830 284 gas engine. I bought a case loader that has this engine but it is stuck. I have it soaking and am thinking about pulling the heads but the head gaskets for these are around 900.00. 301 diesel head gaskets are much cheaper. Does anyone know if these would work.

If you are willing to try A&I, they show the upper gasket set at a little over $200.
I don't want to open a can of worms. I am not a big fan of A&I but for the price a guy might take a chance.

You're right, I checked a little farther and see A$I lists the same part number for both gas and diesel engines. Another A&I mistake.

I pulled the heads off and the liners are worn but not real rusty. We got it to move a little. Not sure what im going to do with it but will need head gaskets regardless. The piston and liner kit for one cylinder of the 284 is as much as a whole overhaul kit for a 301. I guess the 301 diesel pistons and liners will fit in a 284 gas but you would need 301 diesel rods.

I don't think the diesel liners will fit the gas block but as I stated below Elmer's Repair lists the gas gasket kit for about $265. Maybe someone else who knows will answer. My email is open in classic view.

Diesel Sleeves will not fit the 284, the OD is different. S&P assy's are $1695.00 for the set of 4. We put 284 gaskets sets together quite regularly. The head gaskets are the same, but the manifold gaskets are different.

We don't have a salvage yard, can't help with the rods, but with all the 830's & 1030's parted out, they have to be around.
