pulling with a C O M

Would a Case with a C O M be a good tractor to go out pulling with? (I have been to many pulls and just remember seeing too many.) Why or why not? Just wondering. Bill

Bill,

In 1977 at the Door County Fair tractor pull we entered the 12,500lb class with an 830 Comfort King COM weighted down with 36 weights. The guys running the scale were snickering. At about 100 feet the motor started dying down and everybody thought that was pretty funny-until I shifted into COM, the motor came right back, the front wheels came off the track and it kept right on walking. I didn't win but came in 3rd against many tractors that were running twice my 70 hp. What a night. The grandstand was full of spectators and the farmers were betting on each other's tractors. The IH and AC dealers were up to their eyeballs behind the scenes. I sure miss those days. Don

Used to be a local guy pulled one turbo'd and real hot, must have been 5-600 hp. He did well. Never locked the converter that I saw. I've never pulled one but would just pull in com.

Jim Harnish here in Pa has a 830 COM with a 336 Turbo in it, he frequents this forum and is a longtime puller. I will see if I can get him to post.

LOL That was a 1966 model 830 that we traded your VAO in on @ Newton with Marvin Zimmer. We thought we were in high cotton until we traded the 830 and a DC4 in on a new 1070 and a good used 930 in 1978. That 1070 was a natural puller, the 930 was NOT! Don
