i have a case 1690 tractor that stopped running in the field al off a sudden. all in all we decided to change the injector pump things got turn so. i need to kno how to time the engine. i have taken the timing cover off and have the injector pump gear off. my timing marks will not line up on TDC on #1 cylinder at all. the cam gear mark is 180 degree out its on the other side of the gear from where i need it . but it will line up with the crank gear and the cam gear but on TDC of cylinder #6 cylinder closest to driver. so dose anyone have insight into why the dots will not line up on cylinder 1 and only on cylinder 6 cause to line up the timing marks on the injector gear the engine has to be in TDC of #1 but wont cause the other marks will only line up on TDC of #6 cylinder. i have the service manual and also when the cam is in TDC of #6 the cam key way is in the position that you would need it to be in TDC of # 1. also is #1 cylinder the front cylinder or is it the cylinder closest to driver? need help

Front is #1.

I haven't been into a 6 cylinder DB recently, but IIRC, the timing set up is the same as a 4 cylinder. There are multiple marks on a couple of the gears, and they only line up perfectly once every 47 rotations(47 teeth on the idler gear). I think TDC#1 is when the keyway is on top on the crank gear.
