Does it have a smooth block or is it
rubbed? Kerosene burners also had a
small starting tank bolted under the hood
toward the front. The fill cap came
through the hood.

I hadn’t thought of a distillate burning option. I’ll ask Dad if this was the case.
We had an H Farmall on our farm growing up and it did have that extra tank for starting on gas, which we never used. We filled the main rank with gas.
I consider the block to be smooth. Where would “ribs” be? I can get a pic of the block, as the original cracked one is decorating the slab just outside my shop door.

Smooth block is smooth all the way to the oil pan mount flange at the bottom. Ribbed block has noticeable exposed ribs that were added for strength to the casting. See photos. Your serial number should have a ribbed block. There were also 3 different ribbed blocks. Early '41, mid model years, and late.
