Im working on my Grandfathers 1941 Case SC and need to surface the flywheel.
Does anyone have the spec for the "step" from the friction surface to the recess where the pressure plate mounts?
Thanks

Have you checked with an automotive machine shop that has a flywheel grinder?

The makers of those machines supply specification manuals with them.

I don't know how far back they go, but if there's a place that's been around for a while with an older guy in the shop in your area, hopefully they've kept the manuals for the older stuff around.

Bob, I dropped the flywheel off last week and they did a quick search for that spec. They couldn't find it on their computer, but said there were more places to look.
Friday night i noticed a voicemail on the phone, saying they had a question. I assumed it was for that spec, but it was too late to return their call.
Ill call Monday morning, but i thought it would be expedient to have that spec handy.

While I cannot help with the spec on the flywheel step - I was wondering if we have your 1941 Case SC on the Case SC registry? I have been trying to keep track
of all the 1941 Case SC's for several years now.

Does it have the center exhaust/early SC setup? (Air cleaner and exhaust through the center of the hood).

It'd be great to get it on the registry!

I have successfully attached pics on this forum before, but am having trouble today.
Anyway, we got that tractor running in HASTINGS,MN yesterday.
I remembered correctly that it has the side mount muffler and air intake pipe, but I noticed an extra hole in the hood, about above the #1 cylinder.
Serial number is 4502336, so that puts it in the correct range for center exhaust, but presently, it isnt.
I know this tractor was driven into a barn during its use, and also used in the woods. If it truly was a CE, could Grandpa have broken the manifold on a barn beam or low hanging branch, then replaced it with a side mount manifold?
I suppose they could have damaged the hood and then found a replacement hood with the extra hole.
Dad is 99 and Ill see him in the next few days and ask him, but he doesnt remember small details like that from 60 years ago.

PS. I would love to attach video of my grandson driving his Great, Great Grandpas tractor out of the shop, but it just wont attach.
BTW, when I asked Dad why they bought a Case from a dealer an hour away instead of from the John Deere dealer a 1/2 mile away, he said it was because they (Kallepp Implement in Abbotsford, WI) were the only dealer willing to take work horses in on trade.

Many time I have been able to measure the flywheel before turning it, usually the wear from the clutch plate is in far enough that there is a small unworn area to gauge from, a depth mike is all you need and a slight unworn area to measure from. Have done it many times without specs by using that method.
