Case DC Hydraulic Pump

Is it necessary to adjust the chain tension on the hydraulic pump? Any ideas why my hydraulic filter is split or why the screen is broken? When I stick a magnet into what is left of the hydraulic oil it comes out covered in little pieces of metal. Should I be concerned about this or is the metal just from the chain and sprockets wearing down? The pto housing has one of the bolt holes broken off. What would be a reasonable price for one?

No way to tighten the drive chain. Looks like water in the oil. Filter probably plugged and split from suction. Change oil and filter and try it...broken edge on the bolt hole would be of little concern.

i would be draining and cleaning that sump and have a good look what in there. water in oil and maybe winter use might have caused collapsed screen. plus remove that chain and check it for wear. might need a new one.

You can find some heavy screening and make a new strainer, the filters are old and the oil has moisture in it , if mousture froze on the filter and would not let oil through te filter will split. I believe John has those filters and DonL also. If the pump works well, a good change of oil and a new chain and filters should set u up for many years. I would put a magnet in there and leave it there and clean it when you service the hydraulics.

I would bet that you are right about the filter freezing. I was told that a new rear tire was put on the tractor about 15 years ago, driven 20 miles to someone's acreage, it was used twice for pushing snow with a 3 point blade, and was parked outside because of a wiring problem.
