Ran 1175 all Saturday afternoon with no issues. Started the ol'e girl Tuesday, just to move it out of the shed and oil started pouring out a small steady stream out of the steering pump shaft, under the dash. Started it yesterday to move it so I could work on it, and not a drop, so I rotary hoe'd with it 3 hours and not a drop. Nothing, completely dry. If I thought I was in that good w/ the Lord I'd chalk it up to a miracle, but I don't think that's the case. Anyone got a clue as to what's up?

Very common, as others have mentioned, change the shaft seal and you should be good for another 30 years or so, LOL. Rod.

My 1170 is doing the same thing. Leaks bad for the first 10 minutes or so then quits

Quoting Removed, click Modern View to see

Are you sure the leak was coming from the upper seal/ shaft seal?

All of mine leak a few inches up from bottom where the housings join together.

Yes, around the shaft. It was close to 90 degrees here.

I have a 970, 1070 and 1270 that all have done the exact same thing.

The 1070 maybe once a year.

The 970 and 1270 mainly when real cold outside.

Lightly snugging up the bolts on the bottom of the steering motor seems to improve things.

Minus 40 outside the 1270 will always leak, first time it happened so much oil came out it was running out the door.

Minus 20 or warmer never a problem.

Put a hair dryer on the steering motor for a half hour before starting and not a drop comes out of it.

The 970 has been doing it for 10+ years and has never gotten worse so the don't fix what's not broken mentality comes into play.

John, over the years I have had several customers tell me that was what happened on their 70 series tractor. Leaks a bunch then quits then continues that pattern until the upper seal is replaced.

Well.....if changing the upper seal cures it, that's great. Thanks.
