SC parts swap.

Will the transmission gears, shafts and rear end parts from a 52 SC work in a 48 SC? I have a 52 SC that I dont like much but it has a good engine with the higher compression head. I am planning to swap the engine from the 52 SC into my old favorite 48 SC that has a tired engine. I then plan to part out the carcass of the 52 SC and store away a few parts. The 52 has live power, will the live power swap over or is the rear end casting different? This is a winter project I am mulling over so there is no rush on the project. The 48 is so much easier to get on and off of without the eagle hitch in the way.

The back half trans housing is completely different, also the flywheel clutch assembly. You can bolt your late engine up but you must use the old flywheel/clutch, which
is smaller than the later one. Parts books for those 2 tractors are very common and cheap and will allow you compare numbers + with the exploded view of everything you
can easily sequence your parts. Ebay etc. As long as you have the 2 tractors to pull misc parts from you'll be fine. I would just use the whole tractor the way it
sounds. My 2 bits. I swapped an early engine with with an eighth overbore p/c into a late rear a couple of years ago, and the I went the other way with one maybe 25
years ago. It sure can be done. I wanted to end up with live power and twin spool hydraulics. My 2 bits. Larry

Thanks. I assumed the rear end was different but I had to ask. The clutch in the late tractor is on its last notch and it snaps in light. The clutch in the early tractor still has good snap but its been so long since I adjusted it I dont remember where the adjustment is. I seldom use the PTO and hydraulics so not having live is no big deal. The hydraulics on the 48 is off a donor tractor. The 48 did not have hydraulics when I got it. The 52 does have a little more spunk than the 48 but not by much.

While you are looking at part comparisons you should be able to see that most of the eagle hitch part can be unbolted and removed. Go to CNH parts https://partstore.caseih.com/us/parts-search.html?csid=31378b9364bf8c60e8acbafc2b580fa7&sl=EN&currency=#epc::mr66945ag4822846

Just me but I would not cannibalize an Eagle Hitch SC for all it would cost to update the present engine. There are people out there that would dearly love to have that tractor for restoration or even a daily user.
