Seems like all the 1960's muscle tractors
of all other makes are worth a fortune.
Why are my Case tractors basically
worthless?
How come the bigger Case tractors of that
era have never appreciated in value like
the rest of the other brands??
I've tried to sell one of my 1030's and
everyone wants it for free.
 
What shape is your 1030 in? Would you post a picture here? I will say that when it comes to fixing a 1066 or 1086, or a 4020 or other Deere, money is no object, but I've come across some pretty cheap CASE owners who have no respect for good iron and choose baling wire over a new replacement part. Bottom line, some of what you complain about we've brought on ourselves. Several months ago I ran across a 1030 owner who was crucifying his 1030 because he was on his 3rd hydraulic pump. "Whoa!! I said!!" I asked him what he was using for Transmission-Hydraulic Oil? He said he buys the cheapest Gaud-Dam (Lord forgive me) oil he can buy @ Tractor Supply. You can't fix stupid.
 
I did a major engine overhaul on it years ago lots of money invested $1500 on a set of crack free reman heads alone.
Tried selling for years, now it's a dedicated grinder tractor.

Because Case really didn’t make a muscle tractor in the 60s. When I think of muscle tractors of the 60s, I think of the IH 1206/56, AC D-21, JD 5020, Oliver 1950. Those tractors seem to have a cool factor with their turbos/GM engines or in the case of the 5020 just it’s massive size. The 1030 really only fills the gap between those tractors and the 90 hp ones so I guess people overlook them. I know out here in wheat country were the biggest tractors were needed it still seemed the CK 930 was more popular then the 1030.
 
I think you are right. Observation around my neighborhood is for the most part guys will do more to keep their JD or IH going but soon as their 930/1030 falls out of favor it gets parked. Grass never grows under a IH or JD but you have to mow around a Case. Cheap on the other hand is good for guys buying. Just last week I watched an good running orange 1370 with duals go for $5,500 at a local auction. That same auction also had a diesel 770 with a powershift go for $2,500. Just needed a new seat.
 
Not a bad looking ol'e whor I mean… girl. The fact you needed 3 heads brings things to mind. 830's & 1030"s had "tender" blocks, Ether damaged both the heads & blocks, that knowledge doesn't help value. We have customers who bought those tractors, then got into the engines and found out they were in deep. I know, happened here w/ a 1030.
 
Yeah I bought this one at an auction, found out it had a cracked counter-bore and a really messed up main bearing journal.
It was not a fun deal.
 
Matt: Was your crack in the lower counter bore? I've never heard of a crack down there, it is common in the upper counter bores, and we had 2. I made a "farmer" fix because there is no professional fix to an upper counterbore in the 830 or 1030. I didn't "cob" it, and it is working. This 1030 sounded sweet, so I bought it cheap @ auction, but boy did I pay later. All 3 heads were cracked. After 6 or 7 years, she's sweet now!!
 
Like John said, people have no respect for a good machine like Case. I had John Deere and IH tractors before I got a Case and fell in love with it. The next year the John Deere and IH were sold and replaced by Case tractors. I have never looked back and I won't buy anything else but Case now.
 
People are irrational! I have both a 930 and a 1030 as well as a IH 966. Given a choice of which tractor I’d like to spend the day riding, the 966 will come in last place every time. Great engine, but the 966 is a clumsy awkward tractor to operate and get on and off of.
 

Maybe if the company that manufactured them gave them some respect the general populace would too. Case machines have now become an orphan child. Don
 

You should look at the money invested over how much use you can get out of the tractor over a period of time. Case tractors are poor tractors to try to flip for a profit, but they will last a lot of years if they are taken care of. I always look at them as cheap horse power. Can a JD or IH owner claim the same thing?
 
So True! Tractor jockeys don't like Case tractors because there is little profit margin to be made off them. That means some fools are willing to overpay for other brands. Don
