1991 Case 1140 Motor Rebuild

Hello all.
I'm new to this forum.
My 1991 Case 1140 is in need of an engine rebuild.
The crank has very minor damage due to a bad rod bearing.
I'm in CA and the cost is more than I paid for the tractor.
I'm looking to maybe send it out for the rebuild.
Anyone know of someone reputable and reasonably priced?

Case 1140 has a 3 cylinder diesel motor.

If you can believe them tractor data says that tractor was built by Mitsubushi for Case and has a 1.5L Mitsu 3 cyl. diesel engine. You might try some of the parts places that specialize in Mitsubushi.

Thanks for the info, I'll look into it.

In looking at the crankshaft for the #1 rod bearing, it has some slight grooving, but not too bad. I think I might try hitting it with some fine emery cloth and putting in 3 new sets of bearings and see what it sounds like.
Money is tight right now with being out of work for 3 months due to nnalert 19, if I can get a hundred more hours on it with the temp fix, that would get me to this time next year.

Prior to taking it apart, it sounded like someone was in the engine trying to beat their way out with a metal pipe!

Pinheads2 hopefully you are still getting notifications from this thread. Can you do me a huge favor and look at your frame where it mounts to the front of the engine and see if the flat bar tabs are welded to the side rails? I can't post links or pictures of the part in question due to the forum's antispam rules. If you do an image search on case part "1991780C1 main frame" that will show the part in question.

While fixing this part for my neighbor it was obvious someone had attempted a repair, probably while it was still on the tractor. While grinding that mess off, there were no tell tale signs of the factory welding these tabs or the flat bar to the side rails except over the front axle mounting plates. If they were designed to flex, then I don't want to weld them solid and risk damaging the engine casting. They definitely were not welded on the bottom side. If you could check the top side and post up what you find that would be very helpful!

Pin, you really need to get a micrometer and measure the diameter of that throw, if it was hammering as bad as you say the bearing shell in the rod should have been destroyed, you are only guessing if you do not measure, was the bearing turning in the rod? if so the rod needs remachined. that setup probably runs at .002-.0025 oil clearance so has to be right to live. Can u post pictures of the crank, rod and bearing shells?
