1969 731C Case Case-O-Matic traction issues

I have a quick question regarding my tractor. I just purchased a 1969 731 Case-O-Matic torque converter tractor. Ive purchased all of the manual available through Yesterday Tractors. I have changed all fluids and filters in the tractor and it really runs strong. I use the tractor to launch my boat and clean up the area in front of our property. I was using the tractor and I got it stuck in the soft part of the lakes edge. Ive owned an old John Deere model A for 25 years and never had this problem. When I was trying to get it unstuck I noticed that only the left side of the drive tires were turning. On the model A both sets of drive wheels turn at all time. Is there a lever that engages the right side drive tires? Ive read everything I can find and the only thing that remotely come close is in the Operator Manual. It talks about the Independent Differential Brakes. It is my understanding that both drive tire should be active unless one of the brake pedal is pressed. Please let me know if Im missing something.

A 730 is a much heavier tractor therefore more likely to sink in
wet conditions. Both tractors have a differential which allows
the wheel that looses traction to spin, you must not have
encountered that with the A. Both also have individual brakes
for each side so you can apply brake to the spinning side to
transfer power to the other side. Takes some skill to do that
properly and it's usually mildly effective. It's about as likely to
spin the front of the tractor towards the wet side as it is to help
out.

Jon,

Thank you for the reply. I’m trying to learn the tractor and operate it properly. I had to have my wife operate the Case and I used the model A to pull the tractor out. The model A while pulling was spinning both sets of tires. I was lucky to get it out. I heard from a friend that has a smaller Case without the Case-O-Matic torque converter. He said there should be a lever that would engage both tires at the same time. I could not not find anything. The only lever is on the left hand side. When pushed forward it turns on the PTO.

There is no differential lock on the case, nor is there on the jd. You have just been lucky to have similar traction on both sides with the jd. There is no difference in that regard between the two

Looks to me like both tractors have similar size tires but the
case weighs nearly twice as much which will make the case
more likely to sink in the mud

Thanks again for the help. Case tire size is much bigger both in width and height. I did notice that the front of tractor does not float over the sand like the JD. Thanks for confirming that they don’t have locking differentials. That really helps me understand the tractor operation better. I will just need to use the JD for cleanup. If I get stuck I’ll have the Case to help pull me out.
