How big of battery should one have in a DC to make sure it turns over fast enough?

If the ignition and fuel system are good it doesn't need to turn over fast, it just needs to crank over past compression stroke. I've got a 625CCA 6 volt in my 51 DC and it starts just fine on it, or about 2 cranks with the hand crank.

fast enough is a slow crank but steady. you don't want it spinning over fast as that's the impulse coupling job on the magneto. spinning it over fast as with a 12 volt battery and the impulse might not kick in. magneto's don't need to be turned over fast to start. my DC starts on the 2nd revolution each time with a 6 volt battery. the big thing is to keep the ignition side up and not substitute a 12 volt battery for the no starts. but each to his own .and I don't know how anyone would get any work done with a tractor with out a starter, being scared to use a hand crank.

I added a 12V alternator and battery to my 50 DC? Starts on about 3rd revolution. I know its not "right" but works for me
