Hydraulic Oil

I need to change the fluid and filters in my 1070 power shift tractor. I just called Case-IH and they said HY-Tran was $100 for a five gallon bucket. Do I need to bite the bullitt and use that or is some other kind that is cheaper acceptable ?

Hy-Tran is CHEAP compared to a PS rebuild your choice of course,, I sure hope you replaced the relief cartridges in both filter when you changed them

It's the MS-1209 specification you are looking for. The actual HY-Tran may be better fluid but there are other brands making it.

I would agree with CNT that its cheaper to use hytran than to have problems later, we use to use others fluids but since I have switched to strictly hytran I have had almost zero powershift related problems, that said 100 for five gallons sounds kinda steep, ask if they have it in bulk and will fill your barrel or buckets, I buy 30-60 gallons every spring and this year it was 13 a gallon in March when I bought.

Thanks for the replies. I will go with the Hy-Tran. I will make sure I save the relief cartridges and put them in the new filters.

The key is a quality oil and change it more often than every 5/10 yrs. Case originally recommended TCH then TFD then TFD II, PTF, HyTran and now HyTran Ultra. Latest formula of HyTran recommends a gear lube additive when used in older tractors according to service bulletin. Have used Deere HyGard in Case tractors due to lower $$$ with no disasters.Just ordered $900 (cnh price) worth of brgs for a 4690 from a supply house for $160 + shipping. We don't feel the need to subsidize cnh's rip off policy.
