Weekend in the kingdom

Started out with a good job, cleaning the hog pen. Everyone loves that right?

Before the next batch goes in some modifications to the cleaning process will be made. Lol. I'm going to fill the gutters and enlarge the door so I can get on with my tractor or maybe a skid loader if money allows.

Took the first three of them in to make bacon today, so with the beef we got a couple weeks ago we will have a good supply of meat for a while. I did find out that the locker is now booked til next February because of the slaughter plant issue. That kinda makes me mad. O will need to get my 4 steers in by fall somewhere and that does not look good now. I told them last fall I was in this for the long term and was going to be a regular customer. If I get pushed out now by the Johnny-come-latelys I'm going to be upset. Oh well, I'm sure life will go on.

Anyway, back to Case stuff. Started by getting my heavy disc fixed up. Had a broken blade and some bad bearings. Also had a problem with ridging that I couldn't get fixed. So I took the front gangs off and replaced the bearings and broken blade and cut down the last three from 24" to 22, 10 and 18".

Seems to work good now, no ridging anyway. At 15' it makes the 1030 stand up and take notice.

I went over it again with that disc and once with the light disc and had a decent seed bed. Got mostly done planting before the snow hit.

So I still have a few rounds left to plant. I hope I can get that done tomorrow or Tuesday before the next rain. I even fixed the John Deere, covered it with some case weights.

Those weights made it work good. The oats is up and doing well and the corn has germinated but is not up which is good since it's been freezing at night again. Tomorrow night will freeze again then warm up. Looks like a rainy spell coming for the next ten days. The alfalfa I planted last year is starting to grow but it's slow because it's so cold. But with 70s predicted by the end of next week it should really pop.

Next will be to Finnish the fence for the cattle then get the hay equipment ready. Also have to Finnish the manure spreader.

If there is no rest for the wicked, then I must be pretty bad.

What model disk is that. Looks kind of like mine, I have a 'B' model I pull with an 800B. Always look forward to your pictures.

The art of loading manure with a pitch fork is an acquired skill, glad to see someone still doing it. I still remember the day I got off the school bus and saw the (our first) brand new 350 tractor with a loader my dad had bought. The disc did a really good job on the field. Your ground looks better than what we've got here in far S IL. Was it prairie originally?

Hi Jon,
Wow, that brings back memories for me! I used to clean out my old dairy barn once a week with a pitchfork only for my beef cattle. I did this for 6 years straight before I bought my first little Bobcat skid loader. I could at least back the manure spreader inside the barn for one of the pens though. I did cement the gutters shut also. I can see a nice 18xx series skid loader in your future. LOL

Jon, I remember every Saturday I had to clean the steer and hog pens with a pitch fork many years ago. I am proud to see you have been getting things planted . Great pictures, one question ,do you have duals for the tractors? Jerry from Ohio

No duals yet. I have tires and rims for the 830 but no clamps and the spacers are very narrow. I have tires for the 1030 but no rims or clamps

Hi:

Love the pictures. It has been a while since I last used the pitch fork to clean out the barn. Still remember the aromas as well.

Question on your disk repair. How did you get the collars off between the disks? I am replacing the bearing on my disk and the collars are refusing to cooperate.

Thanks.
