Where do you add hydraulic fluid to a 1959 Case 511-B? also is regular hydraulic fluid OK to use? Thanks for any help! I found the manual to the tractor on ebay for $50, seems pricey.

On the range shift cover there should be a breather & 1/2" pipe plug for fill. Late 500B's had a fill pipe coming out the left side which was an easier fill. Hydraulic fluid?? NO!! Hydraulic fluid is nothing but panther pi$$ with an anti foaming agent. Transmission-Hydraulic Oil such as Hy-Tran is the proper oil. For an added benefit I add 2 qts of 85W140 to the Tranny-Hyd oil for added body. Good for the pump, gears & bearings.

Is the Shell Rotella HD Tractor Transmission and Hydraulic fluid that Tractor Supply sells what I should be using? Its like $60 for 5 gallon bucket.

NAPA also has a transmission oil they say meets the standards of Hi-Tran. That's what I use. Transfer case is also the hydraulic reservoir.

Thanks for the help everyone. So just to double check. (A.) in this picture is where I fill the hydraulic fluid? And I have the hydraulic dipstick correct? Is (B.) the rear-end fluid? Is there a way to check the rearend fluid and what kind of oil do I fill that with? I did find hydr-trans equivalent fluid in Napa brand so I was going to buy that. The dipstick isnt showing any fluid and hydraulics are hardly working. Any idea what this tractor holds? Was debating on whether to get a gallon or 5 gallon. Again thanks a ton for all the help!!

Yes, A is where you fill the Range-Hyd. reservoir. Hold 4 gallons. B is the Tranny-Differential, and that takes 85W140. Most likely you will find that level overfull as it sounds like oil from the front reservoir has migrated to the rear.

You can fill the torque tube at "A" breather or "B" the actual designated fill plug. It's easier to use the fill plug due to the overhang of the dash that infers with a funnel. Pull the breather, clean the core and screw it back in.
